Job summary

Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children in Hawaii seeks a dedicated Registered Nurse for the Newborn Special Care Unit. You will deliver comprehensive nursing care to newborns and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support families.

The role requires an active Hawai‘i RN license, BLS/NRP CPR, and NICU experience; preferred candidates hold a BSN and ACLS/PALS and have 2+ years in NICU settings. Day/night shifts, full-time, 0.9 FTE, on-site at Kapi‘olani.

Qualifications

• Current Hawai‘i Registered Nurse license and BLS/NRP CPR cards.
• At least 1 year of recent NICU (Special Care Nursery) experience.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree and ACLS/PALS certifications, 2+ years NICU experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care in the Newborn Special Care Unit including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation.
• Support and collaborate with the charge nurse; progress to charge nurse responsibilities as eligible.

Job description

Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children is Hawai'i’s only maternity, newborn and pediatric specialty hospital. It is well recognized as Hawai'i’s leader in the care of women, infants and children. With 253 beds, the not-for-profit hospital delivers 6,000 babies a year, and is also a medical teaching and research facility. Specialty services for patients throughout Hawai'i and the Pacific Region include intensive care for infants and children, 24-hour emergency pediatric and adult care, critical care air transport and high-risk perinatal care. Over 1,400 employees and more than 700 physicians provide specialty care at Kapi'olani. The hospital is home to the Kapi'olani Women’s Center and the Women’s Cancer Center, and offers numerous community programs and services, such as specialty pediatric clinics, the Kapi'olani Child Protection Center and the Sex Abuse Treatment Center.

At Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children, the Newborn Special Care Unit provides continuous care to newborns of up to three months, including meeting the complex psychosocial needs of both the child and their family. Nursing and medical support staff in the NSCU work with the Neonatology team to care for premature babies and newborns requiring special care. Support and education are delivered to patients and family in an atmosphere that promotes bonding of the family unit.

You would provide nursing services through the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of patient care in our Newborn Special Care Unit. You would also function as an associate to a charge nurse, and eventually assume charge nurse responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications: Current Hawai‘i Registered Nurse License. Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) CPR cards. One (1) year recent acute care Registered Nurse experience in a Special Care Nursery (NICU II).

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatrics Advanced Life Support (PALS) CPR cards. More than two (2) years recent acute care Registered Nurse experience in a Special Care Nursery (NICU II).
