Under appropriate supervision, the Registered Nurse (RN) exercises independent clinical judgment and professional expertise to deliver holistic, patient-centered care. The RN collaborates with providers and interdisciplinary teammates to implement therapeutic regimens, respond to complex patient needs, and ensure safe, effective care in accordance with UNC Health Wayne standards and North Carolina Board of Nursing guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Plans, provides, supervises, and documents nursing care using the nursing process
- Individualizes care plans based on patient needs and response to treatment
- Performs bedside point-of-care testing and prioritizes care according to patient/family needs
- Communicates effectively with providers, patients, and families
- Delegates appropriately and provides guidance to licensed and non-licensed teammates
- Participates in emergency response, performance improvement, and departmental initiatives
- Maintains a safe, clean, and professional environment
- Promotes age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and ethical care
- Uses PPE and standard precautions to minimize exposure risks
Qualifications
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in North Carolina
- BLS certification required; additional certifications may be required by department
- At least one year of nursing experience preferred
- Proficient in EMR systems (Epic preferred)
- Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and organizational skills
- Ability to assess and care for acute and chronically ill patients
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and meet job demands for the duration of the shift
- Must be able to work rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and during emergency situations
