UMass Memorial Health in Massachusetts is hiring an RN for night shift in the Emergency Department. The role entails full nursing responsibilities from admission to discharge with a focus on safe patient care and discharge planning.

Requirements include Massachusetts nursing licensure, BLS, and ACLS/PALS/CEN eligibility as applicable. A BSN is preferred and the hospital supports ongoing professional development and safety standards.

• Participates in and supports Nursing Governance activities.
• Assists in education and development of staff.
• Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrate the use of quality improvement in daily operations.

Major Responsibilities

9. Administers medications, performs treatments, therapies and operates equipment according to policy and procedure. Assists physician with treatment and procedures and special tests as required or directed.
10. Participates in and supports Nursing Governance activities.
11. Assumes responsibility for professional growth. Assists in education and development of staff.
12. Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrate the use of quality improvement in daily operations.

Position Qualifications

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

1. Current Massachusetts Nursing licensure and registration.
2. BLS is a requirement for every RN unless advance cardiac life support (ACLS) certification is current, in addition to any unit specific certifications and competencies.

Preferred:

1. Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing highly preferred.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

1. Thorough knowledge of the discipline of Nursing.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

Work is considered medium. Position requires work indoors in a patient care environment.

Addendum for UMass Memorial Medical Center at Nashoba Valley

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

1. ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
2. PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support or APLS (Advanced Pediatric Life Support).
3. Must be eligible to obtain CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) upon hire. If not certified upon hire, caregiver must obtain within 12 months of hire or by 1/31/2029, whichever is earlier, or be subject to termination.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

1. Have a minimum of three years' experience working in a full-service hospital emergency department.
2. Provide traditional clinical emergency services at a full-service hospital emergency department (Marlborough Campus) for at least 25% of their total working hours per year.
