Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC Health) seeks an experienced Registered Nurse to provide quality MOHS surgery nursing care and coordinate patient care. The role includes documenting histories, administering medications, and developing care plans with the medical team.

Requires 1 year RN experience, SC RN licensure or compact state, and BLS certification. Bachelor's degree preferred; BSN progression within four years for those hired with an associate/diploma is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred; RN staff hired on/after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma in nursing must enroll in accredited BSN program within two years and obtain BSN within four years.
• Minimum of one (1) year of work experience as a Registered Nurse required.
• Licensure as a registered nurse by SC Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Current American Heart Association BLS or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers required.

Job Description

Provides professional nursing care to assigned MOHS surgery patients. Records patient histories, performs various diagnostic tests, administers medications, and develops MOHS surgery patient care plans in conjunction with other medical professionals. Assists physicians during examinations and procedures, operating and monitoring medical equipment as necessary. Observes patients' progress and records observations in patient medical records. Promotes patients' independence by teaching patients and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills.

Required Minimum Training and Education:

• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. Refer to policy A141 for more details.
• A minimum of one (1) year of work experience as a Registered Nurse required.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Physical Requirements:

Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
