Job summary

Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg, VA is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Medical Oncology unit. The 36-bed medical-surgical and telemetry unit includes oncology, chemotherapy, and end-of-life care, delivering compassionate, high-quality care to a diverse patient population.

This role supports a Nurse Residency program with a 10-week Transition to Practice, featuring hands-on training, mentorship, and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Competent nursing care utilizing the nursing process.
• Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
• Effective communication and teamwork with interdisciplinary staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to oncology/medical-surgical patients per standards.
• Coordinate care with physicians, preceptors and families.

Duties/Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The Registered Nurse possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

Transition to Practice/Nurse Residency Program

This 10-week TTP program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in Medical-Surgical areas. For new graduates, this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program to support your transition to practice.

Program includes

• Formal delivery of fundamental nursing concepts and standards with in-person sessions utilizing case studies, gaming, simulation, and skills labs
• Exposure to Sentara policies and evidence-based practice guidelines
• Hands-on experience alongside a trained nurse preceptor
• Opportunity to share your experiences/ networking with peers in a safe, protected environment
• A series of virtual professional development sessions with mentoring (optional for experienced nurses)
