Job summary

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our care team. You will perform patient assessments, develop plans, and deliver education and discharge planning under supervision of nursing leadership.

The role requires a New Jersey RN license, BLS certification, and IV certification, with BSN or enrollment in a BSN program. Strong communication and teamwork are essential in our diverse facility.

Qualifications

  • Current New Jersey Registered Nurse license required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.
  • IV Certification required.
  • BSN required, or proof of enrollment in an accredited BSN program with completion expected within three years.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Speaks, reads, and writes English to the extent required by the position.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, treat, and provide patient care with growth and development appropriate to patient ages.
  • Document initial observations and assess needs within 24 hours of admission.
  • Assess nursing needs and detect changes in the clinical picture.
  • Develop, plan, and evaluate care based on assessment.
  • Coordinate education and discharge planning with other disciplines.
  • Provide comprehensive patient/resident care and family teaching.
  • Collaborate with health care team to complete MDS/care planning and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Transcribe orders accurately and notify physician of changes in management.

Job Duties
  • Assessment, treatment, and patient care responsibilities delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development appropriate to patient ages.
  • Identify and document initial observation and assessment of the patient’s needs for immediate nursing action within twenty‑four hours of admission.
  • Systematically and accurately assess nursing needs to detect pertinent changes in the clinical picture.
  • Identify appropriate foci for care.
  • Develop, plan, evaluate, and document care based on assessment.
  • Assess, intervene, and document appropriately to meet patient’s educational, psychosocial, and discharge planning needs with other disciplines.
  • Initiate appropriate referrals to departments, services, and/or outside agencies.
  • Give comprehensive patient/resident care.
  • Initiate and follow through with patient and family teaching.
  • Consult with unit Nursing Leadership regarding significant changes in patient condition.
  • Collaborate with all members of the health care team to complete MDS/care planning in compliance with regulatory agency requirement.
  • Communicate relevant patient care information on shift‑to‑shift report.
  • Utilize patient care standards in clinical practice.
  • Document pertinent information regarding patient’s response to treatment and progress toward goals; revise Plan of Care as indicated.
  • Complete Admission/Transfer Summary Sheet and/or Discharge Summary.
  • Transcribe physician’s orders accurately and timely; seek clarification of unclear or inappropriate orders.
  • Interpret clinical data and notify physician promptly if immediate changes in management are indicated.
  • Administer intravenous medications in compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Titrate medicated infusions per physician’s prescription, protocols, and standards.
  • Complete checks to ensure emergency equipment is on hand and in good working order.
  • Recognize equipment malfunction or failure; report to Biomedical Engineering and take appropriate action to repair or replace equipment (e.g., ventilators, cardiac monitors, defibrillators).
  • Check that all monitoring equipment and ventilator alarms are set according to standards.
  • Participate in patient care rounds by presenting findings on patients.
  • Apply principles of infection control and safety.
  • Assist in the orientation of new personnel.
  • Provide clinical supervision of LPNs, CNAs, and other ancillary staff.
  • Exhibit customer service skills: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience, helpfulness; respond in a timely, professional, caring, and respectful manner.
  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards; assess gaps and create necessary policies and procedures.
  • Understand and adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct and Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
Other Duties
  • Orient patient’s family to the new environment and develop rapport.
  • Relieve the Nurse Manager as required.
  • Assist in data collection and analysis of QA/CQI monitors; participate in implementation of follow‑up action.
  • Accurately and effectively utilize the hospital computer system in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Participate actively on Quality Improvement committees as assigned.
  • Assist other personnel as needed.
  • Keep up to date with current trends pertinent to area of assignment.
  • Participate in continuing education activities; attend scheduled in‑service programs; share information gained at conferences with colleagues.
Position Qualifications

$46.94 - $66.43 per hour. Differential: weekend $2.00 per hour, evening 10% night 12% / charge pay $2.00 per hour.
