They develop nursing care plans based on diagnosis and pertinent medical information, patient and family needs such as conducting nursing assessments; developing, implementing and evaluating treatment plans; and providing patient care and education through case management. Employees in this class work independently to carry out nursing care processes and set up an environment to assist patients in obtaining maximum level of functioning or recovery. Employees in this class may also be responsible for serving as a “charge nurse” overseeing the daily nursing care activities on an assigned shift or in a preceptor role, coordinating all licensed and non-licensed staff duties. Employees in this class administer medications and treatments as directed by a physician. Employees in this class are responsible for appropriate treatment and medical documentation. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level Professional Nurse or Nurse Supervisor.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences****Recruitment Range: $58,898 - $88,348**· Ability to independently plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.· Knowledge of medications and the physiological effect of those medications.· Ability to communicate information in a concise and descriptive manner, verbally, written, or by demonstration.· Ability to appropriately respond to emergency situations.**\*A Sign-on bonus of $10,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.****\*Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus**To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.An employee is **not** eligible for a sign-on bonus if:· The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date).· The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency.· DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.All Sign-on Bonuses are contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire.
