Job summary

Hushabye Nursery seeks an experienced Registered Nurse Lactation Consultant to educate, support and guide infant-mother dyads. You will collaborate with nursing staff and other physicians to manage lactation and breastfeeding plans in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

You will lead weekly support groups, coordinate care with caregivers, manage supplies, and ensure timely billing and data collection to improve the lactation program.

Qualifications

• Arizona RN license is current and active.
• IBCLC certification held and active or eligible for recertification.
• NRP certification or ability to obtain it.
• Current BLS certification or ability to obtain it.
• AZ DPS Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card is active.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Registered Nurse Lactation Consultant is a member of the health team who provides education, support and guidance to the infant-mother dyad and collaborates with nursing staff and health care providers in management of lactation and breastfeeding.

Plans, organizes and delivers lactation management services to all eligible breastfeeding patients, in both an inpatient and outpatient basis.

Coordinates care and education with all caregivers interested in breastfeeding or services.

Conducts weekly support group meetings.

Assists with management and inventory of lactation supplies and equipment.

Participates appropriately in communication and decision-making activities of the lactation and maternity services.

Leads, organizes, develops and manages lactation programs.

Completes billing in a timely and accurate manner for services provided.

Collects data about lactation services as needed for promotion, development, improvement and evaluation of program.

Develops, evaluates and revises policies and procedures related to lactation and breastfeeding.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES (QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING):

• In accordance with the vision, mission and values of Hushabye Nursery, the Registered Nurse Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing quality lactation care and services that meet the needs of persons served.
• Integrates nursing interventions into the multidisciplinary plan of care, incorporating appropriate standards of care and practice and patient outcomes.
• Provides care in a supportive, compassionate, trauma-informed and non-judgmental manner that is sensitive to the patient’s and family’s diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity, and rights.
• Evaluates patient’s responses to care based on effectiveness in relationship to established outcomes and consults with team members regarding clinical variances and recommended changes to the plan of care.
• Monitors patient’s condition and assesses their needs to provide the best possible care and advice; performs routine procedures while maintaining accurate, complete health care records and reports.
• Completes required orientation and continuing competencies as required by policy and procedures.
• Prior experience as a lactation consultant (preferred).
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Current State of Arizona RN license.

• Current IBCLC certification.
• Practiced as a Registered Nurse or lactation consultant with a minimum of 2 years of experience, preferably in the NICU or Women-Infant Services.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or ability to become certified.
• Current BLS Certification or ability to become certified.
• Current AZ DPS Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Excellent knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures.
• Outstanding critical thinking, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
• Experience caring for babies with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome.
• Passion to care for families impacted by Substance Use Disorder and Opiate Use Disorder.
• Team player with excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to "think outside of the box."
