The unit includes 10 labor beds, 2 triage beds, 2 operating rooms, and a dedicated tub room for labor support (non–water birth). Our team maintains A1 standards for nurse-to-patient ratios and is supported by 24/7 in-house anesthesia and continuous neonatology coverage. We care for patients at or above 32 weeks gestation and collaborate closely with private practice Obstetricians and Physician Assistants. Staffing on each shift includes a strong core team of nurses along with surgical tech and administrative support. The unit has recently undergone extensive renovations, offering brand-new labor rooms designed with comfort and aesthetics in mind, including modern bathrooms and glass showers. OR upgrades and expanded storage enhancements are also in progress. The Role As a Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse at Winchester Hospital, you will provide comprehensive, compassionate care throughout the labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum experience. You’ll work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support safe, family-centered births while responding confidently to both routine and high-risk situations. As required, maintains current license, life support certification, and tuberculosis testing. Takes responsibility for own safety as well as the safety of patients, patients’ family, co-workers, physicians and other customers.* Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care* Assesses the patient using methods such as observation, interview, and review of clinical data.* Develops individualized plan of care including discharge plan based on assessment and in conjunction with physician orders to achieve desired outcomes.* Evaluates and changes care plan as appropriate.* Implements plan of care.* Directs licensed and unlicensed personnel to implement plan of care.* Utilizes the results of evidence-based research to improve clinical outcomes.* Administers medications and performs treatments as ordered.* Provides patient/family education to affect desired clinical outcomes.* Observes and/or makes periodic rounds on assigned patients independently, with physicians, and other members of the health care team.* Reports pertinent patient assessment data, plan of care and response to all appropriate members of the health care team.* Documents nursing process and other pertinent patient/family information completely and accurately.* Participates in interdisciplinary patient care conferences. Communicates with other health care team members to resolve operational problems, patient satisfaction and clinical initiatives.* Completes competency for preceptor and/or charge nurse role at the direction/discretion of the nurse manager.* Completes competencies for unit specific responsibilities.* Takes on-call as needed.* Participates in the following: Mandatory training requirements as per unit/hospital policies, Continuing education/in-services to enhance knowledge, Staff meetings, Performance improvement initiatives, Orientation of new staff, students and/or volunteers, Participation in community activities is encouraged.**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:* Graduate of a state approved and/or accredited RN program required* BSN or obtain BSN within 5 years of hire required* BSN upon hire preferred* Work experience in unit specific specialty preferred.* Basic computer knowledge.* Excellent communication and customer service skills required.**LICENSE, CERTIFICATION REQUIRED**:* Massachusetts Registered Nurse License.* **LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED**: All registered nurses need Basic Life Support certification. Some departments required additional life support certification:* A4 nurses also require Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)* Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby Unit and Special Care Nursery nurses also require Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)* Maternal Child Health Float Pool require NRP and if float onto A4, PALS is required.* A1, ICU, Radiology, Ambulatory Care Unit, Cardiac Rehab, Cardiology, Endoscopy, Pain Center, and Med/Surg Float Pool nurses also require Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)* Emergency Department, Walk in Urgent Care, Urgent Care Woburn, and Post Anesthesia Care (PACU) Unit nurses also require both ACLS and PALS.**Pay Range:**$36.00 - $90.14The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
