Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide safe, patient-centered care in a 26-bed ICU. The RN will perform the nursing process, evaluate care effectiveness, and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams while upholding patient rights and confidentiality.

Licensure in the hiring state or compact licensure is required. Certifications such as BLS are required within 30 days of hire; ACLS/TNCC may be required depending on unit.

The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care while maintaining professional accountability for assigned patients. The RN evaluates the effectiveness of care provided by other direct caregivers and coordinates patient care collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams. This position upholds patient rights, maintains confidentiality, and performs all duties in alignment with Mercy’s mission, values, and Service Standards.

Role Details

Provides care for a diverse population of critically ill patients in a 26‑bed intensive care unit, including medical/surgical, cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, infectious disease/sepsis, hepato‑renal, endocrine, behavioral health, trauma, neurosurgical, cardiovascular surgery, and reconstructive surgery populations requiring complex assessment, hemodynamic monitoring, and advanced interventions.

Qualifications

Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (associate's degree, Diploma, or BSN).

Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.

Certifications: Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire. One or more of the certifications below may be required based on the position/unit hired to, or acquisition of certification within department required timeframe:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - within 30 days of hire
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
Physical Requirements
  • Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Position requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
  • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.

Transforming the Health of Our Communities

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
