Job Title

Registered Nurse I – Unit 1 Nursing – El Paso State Supported Living Center

Location

El Paso, TX – 6700 Delta Dr, El Paso, TX

Overview

El Paso State Supported Living Center provides campus‑based direct services and supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or have behavioral problems. In this role, you will perform routine nursing duties, provide assessments and care, and supervise qualified staff.

Responsibilities
  • Attend work on a regular basis; may be required to work a specific shift schedule, rotating schedule, extended shift, or overtime.
  • Administer medications, immunizations, and treatment; observe individuals for uncommon symptoms and reactions.
  • Conduct physical assessments of individual health needs and implement appropriate action.
  • Implement and monitor case management service plans.
  • Instruct and assist individuals in meeting their health care needs.
  • Prepare, maintain, and review individual records and assessments.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews.
  • Comply with all State/Federal/Local standards; facility policy, ICF standards, and Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Manage individual’s medical record (paper chart/EHR).
  • Act as a member of the professional team and share responsibility for the development of the individual’s program.
  • Perform nursing decisions on a 24‑hour basis under the supervision of the Nurse Manager.
  • May be required to serve in a supporting role for disaster response, recovery, or COOP activation, potentially requiring alternate shift patterns or assignment to different locations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures; of health care laws and regulations; of medical diagnoses and procedures; of accepted medical treatment programs; and of community health and nursing care principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to provide individual care, prepare and maintain records, explain public health law, and communicate effectively.
  • Must maintain current CPR certification and possess the strength and flexibility to safely perform CPR.
  • Must have a working knowledge of emergency procedures and equipment.
Licensure and Certifications

Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact). If awaiting a license, may be issued a temporary permit to perform duties under supervision.

Initial Screening Criteria

Graduation from an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited 4‑year or 2‑year college or university is required. Prior employment experience as an LVN or a registered nurse is preferred.

Additional Requirements
  • Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
  • Males between the ages of 18–25 must register with the Selective Service.
  • All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to random drug testing.
  • Flexibility in work hours may be required; the position may require overtime, extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • All applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Compensation and Shift

Salary range: $5,746.66 – $6,779.25 per month, paid monthly. Shift schedule: Evening; additional days, evenings, nights, and weekends may be required. Telework is not eligible.
