Job summary

AMSURG is seeking a nurse to support pre-anesthesia and post-anesthesia care. The role includes ensuring patient identification, preparing care areas, and assisting with procedures in a team-based hospital environment.

The position emphasizes patient comfort, privacy, accurate documentation, and adherence to center policies, with duties spanning the full perioperative period and ongoing education.

Responsibilities

• Assists with inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain stock in the admission area
• Maintains order and cleanliness of PreOp/PACU areas
• Participates as a team member in support of the pre- and post-anesthesia care process
• Uses two patient identifiers, verifies patient and procedure per policy
• Prepares pre- and post-procedure areas with the healthcare team
• Provides comfort and reassurance to patients and maintains privacy
• Performs nursing care throughout the pre- and post-procedure process
• Documents patient-care records accurately and timely
• Develops a plan of care based on patient needs for the planned procedure
• Assesses patient's physical and emotional status prior to the planned procedure
• Reviews post-procedure instructions with patient and responsible adult
• Transports patients as needed, observing safety requirements
• Attends required education and performs additional duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, TASKS and RESPONSIBILITIES

Uses proper techniques and procedures according to accepted standards of practice

Assists with inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the admission area

Maintains order and cleanliness of PreOp/PACU areas

Actively participates as a team member in support of the total pre-and post anesthesia care process

Per Center Policy, uses two patient identifiers, identifies and validates the patient and procedure to be performed

Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to prepare the pre-and post-procedure area

Provides comfort and reassurance to patient

Maintains patient’s privacy and dignity

Utilizes the nursing process to perform safe and individualized nursing care throughout the pre and post procedure process

Administers medication(s) per order of physician

Accurately comprehends and interprets physician orders and direction

Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of patient care

Evaluates patient condition and maintains accurate documentation during pre and post-anesthesia period

Using the nursing assessment, monitors, and reports any observed abnormalities to the other members of the

healthcare team

Documents patient-care records and other forms accurately, legibly and in a timely manner, following policies and

procedures

Develops a plan of care, based on patient needs, related to the planned procedure and type of anesthesia

Assesses the physical and emotional status of the patient in preparation of the planned procedure

Reviews post-procedure instructions with patient and responsible adult

Determines and documents patient and responsible adult understanding of the discharge instructions and indications

for seeking emergent care

Organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management

Organizes nursing activities efficiently and effectively

Assesses each patient for fall precautions and addresses per Center policy

Assists or supervises patients attire change (as necessary)

Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and by managing efficient turnover time

Assists with supplies, drugs, and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability; maintains order and

cleanliness of pre-procedure area(s)

Transports patients as needed, observing policies, procedures, and safety requirements

Attends all required education

Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned
