Job Description

The Registered Nurse provides safe therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way. The role incorporates differences into the provision of care, integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families, and relies on education and training to complete responsibilities within the scope of licensure.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Practice and Care Management: performs psychosocial/physiologic assessments that integrate changing data.
• Formulate a plan of care based on trends of similar patients, including patient education and discharge planning; tailor and prioritize care to individual needs, including cultural, ethical, and spiritual needs.
• Participate in planning routine transitional health care needs (treatment options, patient placement, end-of-life options).
• Respond to changes in patient needs and provide holistic care using independent clinical judgment.
• Adapt planned educational programs and information to individual patients and families by modifying teaching strategies or content.
• Ensure efficiency in the delivery of care: determine immediate priorities and offer solutions for problems.
• Actively advocate for patient rights, identify potential conflicts, and seek counsel for resolution.
• Identify variances from expected outcomes and evaluate patient outcomes to make revisions in the plan of care.
• Document all patient care activities as per documentation standards and assist the healthcare team with the documentation process.
• Communicate and collaborate consistently with the healthcare team, patients, and families to maximize patient outcomes.
• Appropriately delegate patient care activities and participate in staff assignments to achieve maximum productivity.
• Maintain knowledge regarding unit initiatives and incorporate the outcomes of the team/committee work into practice.
• Participate on unit teams, work groups, and/or committees; anticipate needs and voluntarily assist others.
• Demonstrate knowledge of unit-based quality improvement initiatives.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives by utilizing standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery.
• Incorporate evidence-based practice and research findings into nursing practice to enhance outcomes.
• Act as a clinical resource and mentor other health care team members; display leadership behaviors.
• Identify own learning needs, complete required continuing education and competencies, and ensure self-development in lifelong learning.
• Provide direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serving as a preceptor and mentor.
