Job summary

Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted Ohio RN license.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in addiction treatment, mental health, or related healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with ASAM criteria and levels of care is a plus.
  • Knowledge of COWS and CIWA-Ar withdrawal assessments.
  • Up to date BLS certification.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of substance use disorder and its treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial nursing assessments and ongoing evaluations for patients with substance use disorders.
  • Perform and interpret vital signs and withdrawal assessments (COWS, CIWA-Ar).
  • Assist in developing patient care plans with medical and clinical teams.
  • Administer medications as ordered and monitor responses.
  • Coordinate and complete prior authorizations for medications and injections.
  • Document all nursing encounters and interventions in the record.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to interpret urine drug screens, breathalyzer, and oral swab results.
  • Provide crisis intervention support and individual nursing visits as needed.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate emergency care when necessary.
  • Engage in case management referrals to higher levels of care and providers.
  • Facilitate educational nursing groups 3–5 days per week on topics like hygiene, medication management, and nutrition.
  • Attend trainings (e.g., CPI, Narcan) and staff meetings.
  • Promote a clean, organized, trauma-informed medical wing environment.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Complete annual nursing competencies as required.

The RN is also responsible for patient and family education, supporting recovery through clinical interventions, and contributing to a safe, welcoming, and trauma-informed environment.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Conduct initial nursing assessments and ongoing evaluations for patients with substance use disorders.Perform and interpret vital signs and withdrawal assessments, including COWS and CIWA-Ar.Assist in the development of patient care plans in collaboration with medical and clinical teams.Administer medications as ordered by the provider and monitor therapeutic responses.Coordinate and complete prior authorizations for medications and injections.Document all nursing encounters and clinical interventions in a timely and accurate manner.Collaborate with clinical staff to interpret and report urine drug screens, breathalyzer, and oral swab results.Provide crisis intervention support and individual nursing visits as needed.Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and coordinate emergency care when necessary.Communicate with pharmacies and ensure accuracy when calling in prescriptions.Run OARRS reports when indicated and share results with the appropriate provider.Assist case management with referrals to higher levels of care, PCP, dental, and specialty providers.Facilitate or co-facilitate educational nursing groups 3–5 days per week on topics such as hygiene, medication management, and nutrition.Attend all required trainings (e.g., CPI, Narcan) and participate in staff meetings.Promote a clean, organized, and trauma-informed medical wing environment.Ensure compliance with HIPAA and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.Complete annual nursing competencies as required.Perform other related duties as assigned.Qualifications:Education & Experience:Current, unrestricted RN license in the State of Ohio required.Minimum of 1 year experience in addiction treatment, mental health, or related healthcare setting preferred.Familiarity with ASAM criteria and levels of care is a plus.Skills & Abilities:Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and decision-making skills.Excellent verbal and written communication.Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a multidisciplinary team.High level of empathy, compassion, and professionalism.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.Working Conditions & Physical Demands:Work is performed in a clinical outpatient setting.May require long periods of standing, walking, or sitting.Must be able to respond to emergency situations quickly and effectively.Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.Education and Experience:Hold an unrestricted nursing license in the state of OhioObtain background check, drug screen, NPI and Medicaid billing numbersAny and all controlled substances found in pre-employment urine specimen must have a valid and up to date RxDemonstrates knowledge of substance use disorder and its treatmentDemonstrates knowledge of medication-assisted treatmentDemonstrates knowledge of COWS and CIWAA withdrawal assessmentsUp to date BLS certification
