Job summary

AdventHealth Kansas in Shawnee Mission, Kansas seeks a part-time RN to join our acute care team. You will perform assessments, develop care plans, administer medications, and collaborate with physicians and nurses.

We value compassionate care, continuous learning, and patient education, with opportunities for professional growth through our Clinical Ladder Program and ongoing training. This role includes night shifts and a supportive environment focused on safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of acute hospital nursing experience (preferred).
  • Licensed RN with active license in the state; BLS required.
  • CPR/Basic Life Support certification required; Oncology/CCNS certs preferred.
  • Experience with patient education and care planning.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment with multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document initial and ongoing patient assessments.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans with the team.
  • Administer medications accurately and monitor responses.
  • Supervise nursing staff to ensure safe patient care.
  • Provide patient and family education about care plans and meds.
  • Assist physicians with bedside procedures and tests.
  • Monitor lab results and report abnormalities promptly.
  • Provide emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families.
  • Maintain infection control and a safe, clean work environment.
  • Document care in the medical record and participate in QA activities.
  • Respond to emergencies and coordinate with team to stabilize patients.

Job Description:

  • Perform and document accurate initial and ongoing assessments to evaluate patient conditions and needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to address identified patient needs and goals
  • . Administer medications accurately and appropriately as ordered, monitoring patient responses and adjusting interventions as necessary.
  • Supervise and guide nursing personnel in delivering safe, therapeutic, and quality patient care, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Provide patient and family education about the care plan, medications, procedures, and other relevant information to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • Assist physicians with bedside procedures and prepare patients for tests, procedures, and surgeries.
  • Monitor patient lab work for trends and report abnormal results for necessary actions.
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by adhering to policies, procedures, and infection control protocols.
  • Document all pertinent patient care information accurately and timely in the patient's medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement and research activities by engaging in unit-based initiatives and evidence-based practice projects.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies by providing necessary interventions and coordinating with the healthcare team to stabilize patients.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be able to use a high level of abstract reasoning to assess patient, evaluate interventions, and revise plan of care according to patient outcomes.
  • Basic computer skills – must be able to navigate Microsoft windows based programs.
  • Must be fluent in English (read, verbal and written skills).
  • 1 year of nursing experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Equipment use to stabilize and monitor patients (IV insertion, central lines, pulse ox, NG tubes, Foley, chest tubes, hemodynamics monitoring), including electronic medical record and automated dispensing medication system (pyxis).
  • Proficient clinical skills, critical thinking skills, and strong communication skills.
  • Commitment to hourly patient rounding and EKG interpretation class.
  • Frequent independent judgment, sound professional judgment and critical-thinking skills in clinical situations, including clinical assessment, data, and patient response.
  • Ability to continuously prioritize multiple duties and function in a calm and professional manner during stressful situations.
  • General knowledge of professional nursing principles and techniques, and the pharmacological process in the appropriate administration or delivery of medications.
  • Skill to maintain effective working relationships with health professionals and others to create an environment conducive to carrying out the mission of the facility.
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively to direct the overall professional nursing services in a manner which encourages the open exchange of ideas and information.
  • Will float to appropriate departments within scope, skill/ability, and credentials.
  • Organizational and multi-tasking skills, knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures, and the ability to work as a team player within a unit.
  • Effective verbal and oral communication and problem-solving skills.
