Job summary

St Marys Hospital in Kankakee, IL is seeking a Staff RN Float for a full-time night shift to deliver safe patient care across multiple units. The role requires adapting to varied unit credentialing and maintaining the same standard of care.

You will guide patient/family teaching and collaborate with physicians on condition changes. The position requires a valid RN license in Illinois, BLS, ALS, and PALS/ENPC certificates with relevant experience.

Qualifications

• One year acute care experience required.
• Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC 60 days upon hire and maintain current.

• Demonstrated ability to practice independently within 24 hours of arrival on the unit.

Responsibilities

The Staff RN Float is responsible for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Provides direct patient care across multiple units within credentialed competency levels, supporting coverage where demand exceeds core staffing. Practices as a fully accountable registered nurse in variable patient care units, is expected to orient quickly, seek information deliberately, and maintain the same level of care regardless of the setting. The Registered Nurse also directs and guides patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing care. They communicate with the physician about the changes in the patient’s clinical condition including results of the diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Can respond quickly and accurately to changes in the condition and/or response to treatment. Is knowledgeable about EMTALA regulations and reporting of child/adult abuse to appropriate agencies and Hospital Social Worker. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
