Job summary

North Alabama Medical Center in Alabama is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) Float to deliver direct patient care using the nursing process, aligned with scope and standards of practice.

The role is non-exempt, reports to the Director, and requires an Associate's Degree in Nursing (Bachelor's preferred) and an active RN license. BCLS, ACLS and PALS are required per unit needs; candidates must demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

  • Requires an Associate's Degree in Nursing; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Current RN license to practice in the applicable state.
  • BCLS, ACLS & PALS per unit requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to care team, physician, patient and family.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living and ambulation.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care including transfers and discharges.
  • Educates patient/family according to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Acts as advocate for the patient’s physical and emotional well-being.
  • Determines and supervises daily staffing assignments and levels.
  • Provides direction, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff; conducts evaluations.
  • Ensures quality of services and staff compliance with policies and protocols.
  • Performs staff responsibilities to meet required service levels.
  • Leads handling and resolution of complex issues and complaints.

Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

Performs House Supervisor responsibilities as needed to meet the needs of the facility. Delegate and coordinated nursing care throughout the hospital and ensures that quality nursing care is delivered.

Reports to: Director

FLSA: Non-exempt

Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing Required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Preferred

License: Current RN to practice in the state of (WV);

Certifications: BCLS; ACLS & PALS per unit specific requirements

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action

Essential Functions
  • Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Determines, coordinates and supervises daily staffing assignments and levels.

  • Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA). Skilled in the application of policies and procedures. Knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
