Job summary

HiredFirst is seeking an experienced RNFA to join our San Luis Obispo OR team on a 13-week contract with potential extension. Rotating shifts include early and late start times, with call required twice weekly and every 3rd weekend.

Responsibilities include providing RNFA support, assisting surgeons, maintaining sterile technique, and ensuring patient safety. Candidates must hold an RN license; CRNFA is preferred. On-site, competitive compensation offered.

Qualifications

• Current RN license with state registration and malpractice coverage.
• CRNFA preferred or eligible to obtain certification.
• Experience as RNFA or scrub nurse in surgical environments with instrument handling skills.
• Proficiency in sterile technique, OR setup, and room turnover efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Provide RNFA support during procedures to ensure safety.
• Assist surgeons with instruments, tissue handling and suturing.
• Maintain sterile technique and prepare/ turnover OR.
• Monitor patient status intraoperatively and communicate updates.
• Collaborate with perioperative team to optimize patient outcomes.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory standards (OSHA, HIPAA) and hospital policies.
• Document surgical events, counts, specimens, and postoperative notes.
• Participate in preoperative assessments and case planning.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to performance metrics.
• Educate patients and families on procedures, recovery, and post-op care.
• Support data-driven decision making by documenting outcomes and pipeline indicators.

Job description

Full-time, Contract - 13 week contract with option to extend.

Rotating Shift; 5 x 8s. 6am to 14:30 or 8:30 to 1700 or 1000 to 1830; M - F. Call required.

ACLS, BLS, PALS, and insurance documentation; minimum of 2 years experience as RNFA; must have experience in primary spine, ortho, and robot surgeries. Call is at least twice per week and every 3rd weekend.

Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery expectations, and post-op care.

Support data-driven decision making by documenting outcomes and pipeline indicators.

Experience/Qualifications

Current RN license with valid state registration and malpractice coverage.

Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) preferred or eligible to obtain certification.

Experience as RNFA or scrub nurse in surgical environments with instrument handling skills.

Proficiency in sterile technique, OR setup, and room turnover efficiency.

Strong intraoperative monitoring skills and ability to communicate updates clearly.

Knowledge of regulatory standards (OSHA, HIPAA) and hospital policies.

Accurate documentation of surgical events, counts, specimens, and postoperative notes.

Preoperative assessment participation and case planning to anticipate needs.

Process improvement mindset with trackable performance metrics and pipeline usage.

Patient and family education regarding procedures, recovery, and post-op care.
