Henry Ford Providence Novi Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse - First Assistant for the Operating Room. This full-time, days position offers a 36-hour work week at the Novi site, with a sign-on bonus up to $5,000.

Performs direct assistance to surgeons across procedures, positioning patients, aiding visualization, hemostasis, closures, and drain management. Requires Michigan RN licensure and nursing diploma; ALS/BLS within specified windows.

Qualifications

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing or required professional licensure at time of hire.
• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Michigan Board of Nursing prior to hire date.
• Advance Life Support (ALS) within 6 months of hire date; BLS within 1 month.
• CNOR/CCI credential preferred; First Assistant credential preferred.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred.
• Graduate of an RN First Assist Program and 1 year First Assist experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct assistance to surgeons before, during and after surgical procedures.
• Positions patient to optimize exposure and comfort during procedures.
• Performs visualization of operative site per physician orders; tissue manipulation, retraction and suction.
• Assists with hemostasis and closure, wound dressings, and drainage systems.

General Summary

RN Operating Room First Assistant, Full Time Days 36 hours/week

Provides direct assistance to surgeons before, during and after surgical procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Positions patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
• Implement physicians's orders to provide visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning and irrigation.
• Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
• Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings and securing of drainage systems.

Education / Experience Required:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR required professional licensure at time of hire.

Certification / Licensures Required:

• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Michigan Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• One or more of the following required:
• Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Certified Registered Nurse specializing in Operating Room credentialed from the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI) preferred.
• Certified Registered Nurse specializing in First Assistant credentialed from the National Assistant at Surgery Certification preferred.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduate of an RN First Assist Program
• 1 year of First Assist experience

Henry Ford Providence Novi has 18 rooms in 2 sites. Here at Novi we do everything with the exception of Bariatrics, Transplants and CVOR (open heart). We are heavy on orthopedics, neuro spine and brain and Neurotology. Orthopedics includes total joints and scopes for knee, hips and shoulders. We use the Makoplasty robot for the majority of total knee surgeries as well as the occasional hip surgery. Neuro spine and brain include multiple neurosurgeons who perform spine surgery, brain surgery for tumor, bleeds and aneurysms. There are also orthopedic spine surgeons. Neurotology is performed by the MEI group (Michigan Ear Institution). This is a large group that specializes in surgeries that may not be seen at other institutions. These include acoustic neuromas, cochlear implants, BAHA (bone anchored hearing aids) as well tympanomastoid surgeries. There are multiple ENT surgeons who perform sinus surgeries as well as thyroidectomies, radical neck dissections and the regular ENT type surgeries. Robotic surgery includes, general (hernia, gallbladder etc.), hysterectomies and prostatectomies.
