Job summary

Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) is seeking a Certified First Assistant to support surgeons during intraoperative procedures. The role requires an active Illinois RN license, CNOR certification, and at least two years of OR experience.

You will gown, glove, prep, drape, pass instruments, and assist in hemostasis under supervision. Compensation ranges from $40.35 to $63.55 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and active nursing license in Illinois.
• CNOR certification required for Certified First Assist role.
• Minimum 2 years of OR experience as prerequisite.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon with gowning, gloving, prepping and draping.
• Position patient safely according to surgeon preferences and procedure.
• Pass instruments, assist with suturing and basic tasks.
• Provide exposure and assist in achieving hemostasis under surgeon supervision.
• Assist with tissue manipulation, implant/secure devices and drains.
• Perform layered closure of surgical sites as per surgeon preference.
• Apply dressings and splints specific to procedures.
• Assess skin integrity and assist patient transfer post-operation.
• Address special requests based on training and experience.

Position Summary

Responsible for assisting surgeons during intraoperative procedures.

• Certification (CNOR) for Certified First Assist Experience and Skills
• Technical Experience: 2 years of OR experience

Roles and Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon with gowning, gloving, prepping and draping.
• Facilitate safe positioning of patient according to the surgeon’s preference, patient’s anatomical and physiological limits, and surgical procedure to be performed.
• Assist surgeon with passing instruments or suture and basic assisting.
• Provides exposure, assists in achieving homeostasis with surgeon’s supervision.
• Provides manipulation and dissection and / or removal of tissues, aids in implanting, securing, and/or removal of devises and drains.
• Performs layered closure of surgical sites utilizing appropriate techniques according to individual surgeon preference.
• Applies appropriate dressing material specific to procedure.
• Applies splints or casts specific to procedure and/ or injury.
• Assesses skin integrity and assists in transfer of patient post- operative.
• Special Requests (based on training and experience)
