Job summary

St. David's North Austin Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for Fetal Testing to deliver patient-centered care within an interdisciplinary team.

You will coordinate nursing actions to ensure safe, accurate delivery of care for mothers and infants in a high-acuity setting. The role emphasizes nursing assessment, developmental considerations across age groups, patient education, discharge planning, and medication teaching as part of a collaborative care model.

Qualifications

• 1 year of clinical nursing experience as an RN.
• Experience in an acute care setting – preferred.
• Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) and BSN preferred.
• Current State of Texas RN license or Compact RN license; license by 90 days of hire.
• BLS required; NRP and ACLS as per policy.

Responsibilities

• Review patient’s history prior to beginning physical assessment and incorporate findings into the exam.
• Consider developmental goals for infant, toddler, preschool, school age, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
• Access patient/family learning needs and relate tasks to current health problem.
• Prescribe appropriate nursing care to meet goals and holistic patient needs.
• Explain the purpose of prescribed medications and teach self-administration as part of discharge planning.

Job Summary And Qualifications

As a Fetal Testing Center (FTC) Registered Nurse (RN), you will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of patient centered nursing care. As a member of the interdisciplinary care team, you will work collaboratively with the other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of care.

• You will review patient’s history prior to beginning physical assessment and incorporates findings into the exam.
• You will consider the developmental goals for infant, toddler, preschool, school age, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
• You will access patient/family learning needs, including any tasks that the patient can or cannot accomplish as related to his or her current health problem.
• You will prescribe appropriate nursing care to meet the goals, as well as the physical, psychological, psychosocial, emotional, and social needs of the patient.
• You will explain the purpose of all prescribed medications and teaches patient\’s the appropriate self-administration of medications as part of discharge planning process.

Requirements
Experience

• 1 year of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Experience in an acute care setting – preferred

Education

• Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Business, or Healthcare Administration – preferred

License and Certifications

• Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License. If Compact License Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required as per St. David’s Healthcare policy
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required as per St. David’s Healthcare policy
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required as per St. David’s Healthcare policy
• Registered Nurse, Certified in Inpatient Obstetrics (RNC-OB) – preferred

St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, part of St. David’s HealthCare, is a full-service medical center providing comprehensive medical care at two locations – St. David’s North Austin Medical Center and St. David’s Surgical Hospital.

St. David’s North Austin Medical Center is a 460+ bed, multi-specialty, acute care hospital. It provides advanced women’s health services, including maternity and newborn care with Level I, II, and III neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) at the nearby St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas. This means it provides the highest level of care for pregnant and postpartum patients, especially those with serious or complex medical, surgical, or pregnancy-related conditions, including those at high risk for maternal morbidity or mortality. The center includes a 95+ bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with 30+ private rooms, 10+ rooms for very small babies, and 10+ beds for babies needing neurological care. It also has 35+ labor, delivery, and recovery rooms, including Central Texas’ first low-intervention birthing suites with tubs. There are 95+ postpartum beds, 20+ antepartum beds, and Cesarean section surgical suites. The facility offers 24/7 neonatology coverage, OB/GYN hospitalists, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, lactation consultants, and a midwifery program. It is part of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units Network and TexasAIM, and it also provides a high-risk pregnancy navigation and support program.

St. David\'s Surgical Hospital is part of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center and is the first Level 4 Epilepsy Center in Central Texas for both adults and children. It has its own 24-hour emergency department, a medical-surgical inpatient unit, and a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) for patients ages 17 and under. The hospital is staffed with pediatric emergency physicians, pediatric hospitalists, intensivists, and other specialists who are specially trained to care for children. It also includes certified child-life specialists who help kids feel more comfortable during their hospital stay. St. David\'s Children’s Hospital offers many pediatric services, such as pediatric surgery, pediatric radiology (including imaging and interventional procedures), and pediatric anesthesia for surgical support.
