Job Summary:

Endoscopy RN is a valuable member of the Perioperative, Endoscopy, and Surgical team. Responsibilities of an Endoscopy RN include, but are not limited t,o checking patients in upon their arrival to Perioperative Services, initiating peripheral IV, completing medication reconciliation, providing teaching, assisting with positioning for procedure, administering and monitoring moderate sedation as needed per policy, assisting with endoscopic procedures, and specimen collection.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responds appropriately and immediately in emergency situations.
• Maintains a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and/or staff to provide the highest level of physical comfort, and minimize risk and injury.
• Responds appropriately and immediately in emergency situations.
• Ensures compliance with regulations to maintain accreditation and licensure.
• Complies with the Hospital Attendance and Tardiness Policy.
• Completed all Hospital and Department Specific Mandatory requirements in the prior calendar year.
• Reports Incidents in a timely and effective manner.
• All employees with direct patient contact are responsible for actively engaging in the practice of, monitoring and enforcing compliance to hand hygiene.
• Assess (and reassesses), plans, implements, and evaluates nursing interventions/plans of care/patient goals.
• Provides patient care based on standards of care, standards of practice, protocols, and established policies and procedures

• Safely administers medications and intravenous therapy in accordance with physician’s orders, protocols, policies and procedures.
• Assesses patient pain level upon admission and as necessary, depending upon diagnosis utilizing the numerical pain scale.
• Reassesses effectiveness of pain control and notifies physicians as needed, as well as, documents assessment and patients’ response to medication.
• Initiates and administers IV's in accordance with physician orders and nursing policy and procedure to support required treatment.
• Observes and documents patients' response to intravenous therapy.
• Safely administers and monitors patients receiving blood and blood products according to policy and procedure and observes and documents patients response to blood transfusions
• Assesses and reassesses patients undergoing endoscopy procedures and documents patient care in the Meditech NUR Module.
• Monitors and observes patients continuously during endoscopy procedures giving special attention to oxygenation, ventilation and heart rate and rhythm.
• Administers IV conscious sedation safely and in accordance with physician orders and nursing policy and procedure.
• Responsible for obtaining supporting information and completing required documentation related to medication reconciliation for use by the Attending MD.
• All employees with direct patient contact are responsible for actively engaging in the practice of, monitoring and enforcing compliance to hand hygiene.
• Float within perioperative services as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Proficiency in peripheral IV insertion required.

Minimum Licenses and Certifications

• Current RN license in MA.
• Current AHA ACLS Certification

Minimum Work Experience

• Prior endoscopy experience strongly preferred. In the absence of endoscopy experience minimum other experience, such as 1 year of recent Med/Surg, ED, ICU, OR, peri-operative or OB will be considered.

Required Skills

• Excellent communication, critical care and critical thinking skills are must.Willingness to cross train within peri-operative services preferred.
• Must be able to take call per departmental needs
