Job summary

Saint Joseph Hospital - Elgin seeks a Registered Nurse to deliver safe patient care in the Emergency Department and Telemetry, following the nursing process from assessment to evaluation. You will direct patient/family teaching and lead other nursing staff while upholding professional standards of care.

Qualifications

• Current and valid state RN license is required.
• BLS, ALS, PALS and/or ENPC certifications preferred or required upon hire.
• CEN certification is a plus and BSN is preferred.
• EDP/NICU/TNCC-related requirements may apply at facility level.
• Demonstrated knowledge of EMTALA and patient privacy regulations.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safe patient care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
• Provide direct patient care within scope of practice in Telemetry and Emergency Department.
• Direct and guide patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel.
• Communicate with physicians about changes in patient condition and test results.

Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice. The Registered Nurse also directs and guides patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing care in Telemetry. The Registered Nurse is directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her patients in the Emergency Department. They communicate with the physician about the changes in the patient’s clinical condition including results of the diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is capable of responding quickly and accurately to changes in the condition and/or response to treatment. Is knowledgeable about EMTALA regulations and reporting of child/adult abuse to appropriate agencies and Hospital Social Worker. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

• Current and valid state RN License.


• Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.


• Current ALS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.


• Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC 60 days upon hire and maintain current.


• Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.


• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Facility Specific Requirements (facility May Require Items Listed Below)

• ECRN or MICN certificate required within 12 months of hire and maintained current


• EDAP certified facilities: Completion of required annual education


• Non-OB facilities: NRP certificate 90 days upon hire and maintain current.


• Trauma designated facilities: Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) required within 12 months of hire and maintain. Non-trauma facilities, TNCC preferred.
