Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care, administer meds, monitor vital signs, manage pain.
  • Stabilize patients and initiate life-saving interventions as needed (ACLS/PALS/trauma).
  • Manage high-stress, multi-patient care during busy shifts or mass events.
  • Educate patients and families about conditions, options, and discharge instructions.

Employment Type: PRN or Per Diem
Hours: 12‑hour shift – 11 am – 11 pm or 1:00 pm – 1:00 am
Location: Riverview Regional Medical Center, Gadsden, AL

We are seeking an Emergency Department RN, also referred to as an Emergency Room RN (ER RN) or Emergency Services RN (ES‑RN). The Emergency Department RN provides rapid and skilled care to patients who arrive at the hospital seeking emergency medical attention. The ER nurses are skilled professionals who play a critical role in delivering emergent and urgent care to patients in the emergency department.

If you have experience as a Registered Nurse in Critical Care, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Cardiac Care, Telemetry or Emergency Department, you are encouraged to apply!

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients upon arrival to determine the severity of their condition and prioritize care accordingly, following standardized triage protocols to quickly identify patients who require immediate attention due to life‑threatening conditions.
  • Provide direct care to patients with a wide range of medical conditions and injuries, which may involve administering medications, performing procedures such as wound care or splinting, monitoring vital signs, and managing pain.
  • In cases of severe illness or trauma, assist with stabilizing patients and initiating life‑saving interventions, which can include advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), pediatric advanced life support (PALS), and trauma care.
  • Manage high‑stress and rapidly changing situations effectively, remain calm, focused, and decisive while providing care to multiple patients simultaneously during busy shifts or mass casualty events.
  • Educate patients and their families about their medical conditions, treatment options, and discharge instructions.
Qualifications
  • Current and valid state RN license.
  • Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • Current ACLS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
  • Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
  • Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire.
Facility Specific Requirements (facility may require items listed below)
  • In Paramedic Base Station ED: MICN within 12 months of hire and maintain current.
  • EDAP certified facilities: Completion of emergency pediatric course 1 and 2 within 6 months of hire.
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNNC) within 12 months of hire required.
Additional Qualifications That Are a Plus
  • Minimum of one year experience as a staff nurse RN in an acute care hospital setting.
  • E.R. setting preferred.
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
