Located in Largo in the heart of Prince George’s County, our new state‑of‑the‑art regional medical center (UM Capital Region Medical Center) will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. It will also expand our roles as a community partner to help improve the health status of Prince George’s County residents.

Job Details

Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department

Type: Full‑time, Evening shift (11:30 AM – 12:00 AM)

Location: UM Capital Region Health, Largo, MD

Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

• Provide independent care to the unit's specific patient population; serve as a clinical resource for others.
• Utilize and integrate evidence into practice and function effectively in roles specific to the unit.
• Maintain accountability to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care.
• Coordinate care as an effective primary nurse, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to address patient and family needs.

Service & Quality

• Assist in team development and evaluation of patient and family‑centered care principles; suggest improvement methods and participate in data collection related to outcomes.
• Participate in the implementation of Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI).
• Participate in and contribute to performance improvement, evidence‑based practice, or research at the unit level.
• Comply with standards and participate in unit‑level activities for regulatory compliance.

Unit Operations

• Support charge nurse decisions and perform charge nurse duties for assigned shifts as needed.
• Assist in the development of clinical practice protocols and standards for the unit.
• Participate in unit‑based process activities—performance improvement, professional development, clinical practice, teamwork—and assist in developing action plans.
• Orient Clinical Nurse I to the unit-level decision‑making structure and councils.

Professional Development

• Serve as preceptor, coach, and mentor to new nurses and students, contributing to the development of ancillary personnel skills.
• Attend educational offerings and in‑services independently.

Patient Safety

• Take action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
• Report adverse events and near‑misses to appropriate management authority.
• Implement policies, procedures, and standards consistently in assigned duties.
• Develop effective working relationships and maintain good communication with other team members.
• Identify possible risks in processes, procedures, and devices and communicate them to those in charge.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland or eligible to practice through Compact state agreements.
• Up‑to‑date status on all mandatory training and classes.
• Minimum of one year nursing experience; solid knowledge and clinical skills.
• Diploma in nursing or Associate’s Degree in nursing.
• Current Basic Life Support certification; additional unit‑based licensure such as Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NPR), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), or Trauma 101 may be required.
• Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education every two years.
• Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting.

Compensation

• Pay Range: $42.03 – $53.30 per hour.
