Job summary

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is seeking an Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) to provide urgent and emergent care, assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care with age-specific focus, and coordinate care for education, self-management, and satisfaction.

The ED RN will work with a team to deliver high-quality care for patients with acute and chronic conditions, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compassionate service in a demanding environment.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid RN license in the United States.
• Experience in Emergency Department nursing preferred.
• Completion of any required VA or federal nursing standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide urgent and emergent nursing care to ED patients.

The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers fundamental knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical skills. The incumbent assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components. The RN assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.

Key Responsibilities

The Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks consistent with the nurse's obligation to provide optimal care. They delegate and supervise basic nursing care of licensed practical nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel. Provides urgent and emergent care to patients with acute and/or chronic medical, surgical, and psychiatric conditions.

Nursing care ranges from basic nursing care to stabilization, resuscitation, and life-support measures. The focus is on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction. Ability to formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments. Seeks guidance in how to improve care provided to patients and families. The nurse brings principles and theory with limited application of critical thinking skills.
