Job Summary and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Adheres to the department's and hospital's policies and procedures, including safety, risk management and regulatory standards. Keeps abreast of trends, developments and regulatory requirements impacting matters within designated scope of responsibility.
• Administers, oversees and documents the administration of medications (e.g., topically, orally, intramuscularly, subcutaneously and intravenously) as ordered by the healthcare practitioner and in accordance with hospital policy.
• Assesses patient to include physical, psychosocial, cultural, behavioral/emotional, developmental and spiritual needs; gathers data relevant for patient care; implements appropriate interventions and evaluates outcomes; plans care based on needs identified during assessments; provides holistic, comprehensive, professional nursing care within scope of practice; prepares patient for discharge and assists with post‑discharge needs.
• Cultural sensitivity and competence: demonstrates proper use of communication tools/materials and understands how patient cultures affect care; demonstrates knowledge and proper skills associated with the department's defined populations served.
• Demonstrates competent professional practice and engages in professional growth opportunities; meets deadlines for mandatory requirements.
• Documents care delivered and patient status using the nursing process in accordance with FHS standards of care, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of physician orders.

Job Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, upon hire.
• New graduate or RN without E.D. or critical care experience and successful completion of the E.D. residency program.
• Registered Nurse (WA), upon hire.
• Basic Life Support – CPR, upon hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support, within 60 days.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support, within 12 months.
• Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course, within 12 months.
• Trauma Nurse Core Course, within 12 months.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program, within 12 months.

Preferred

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing and one year of related work experience in an acute care setting, upon hire.
• Previous E.D. experience within the last two years.
• Critical care experience within the last two years.
• Certified Emergency Nurse, upon hire.
