Job summary

Astor Services is seeking a Registered Nurse to support Head Start programs delivering health and developmental services to 3 and 4-year-olds and their families.

You will review health plans, coordinate with medical staff, and monitor records to ensure immunizations and developmental milestones are tracked, while collaborating with nutrition and mental health teams to support family well-being.

Qualifications

• Licensed Registered Nurse with current credentials.
• Experience working with preschool children is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and approves OCFS health plan (RN only).
• Consults medical director when outside providers prescribe psychotropic medication for children in program.
• Reviews medical records to ensure immunizations, disease control, and health monitoring.
• Monitor/update health records in the Head Start programs.
• Perform screenings and follow up as per Head Start Standards.
• Serve as liaison between Dutchess County Early Intervention and families.
• Develop IFHPs when health issues are identified.
• Provide prenatal and postnatal health assessments and labor/delivery prep.
• Perform newborn assessments within two weeks of birth.
• Coordinate with nutritionist on maternal and infant nutrition guidance.
• Monitor infant/toddler health and development.
• Collaborate with mental health staff on family needs.

Astor Services is hiring a Registered Nurse today! Head Start is a federally funded preschool program delivering services to 3 and 4-year old children and their families in core areas of early learning, health, and family well-being. Come join our team!

Job Responsibilities:

• Reviews and approves OCFS health plan (RN only).
• Consults medical director when outside providers prescribe psychotropic medication for children in program.
• Reviews medical records to assure that the children are age appropriate immunized, free of communicable disease and that health and development are being monitored.
• Monitor/update health records in the special education programs.
• Performs as appropriate and follows up on completion of screenings as outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards.
• Serves as a liaison between Dutchess County Early Intervention and the families of children with developmental delays as required.
• Works with family and staff to develop an Individualized Family Health Plan (IFHP) when specific health issues are identified.
• Provides a prenatal and postnatal assessment to evaluate the client’s emotional and physical health status, areas of concern, maintenance of medical follow up, and labor and delivery preparation.
• Performs a newborn assessment on all Early Head Start newborns within the first two weeks of birth.
• Works with nutritionist to provide guidance on nutrition during pregnancy and after delivery for mothers and infants.
• Monitors health/nutritional status of infants and toddlers to assure maximum growth and development.
• Works with mental health staff to address issues of parent bonding, and/or depression, substance abuse and their effect of parenting, potential neglect, etc.
