Job summary

Metropolitan Development Council in Tacoma, WA is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide standard nursing care for clients withdrawing from alcohol and/or drugs. The RN will follow established objectives and ensure safety and infection control practices within the unit.

The role includes distributing and documenting medications (including narcotics) with a Pyxis system, updating MARs, and leading on shift to support Withdrawal Management staff.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Nursing; Licensure as RN with no restrictions.
• Current license as a Registered Nurse without any restrictions.
• Experience in chemical dependency or mental health preferred.
• Must have current TB test or x-ray at time of hire.
• Must have a current First Aid/CPR card per licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provides nursing care following established nursing service objectives and standards.
• Ensures that all safety and infection control practices are followed.
• Distributes and documents medications (including narcotics) according to established standards and regulations.
• Will also be using a Pyxis machine to support distribution of medications.
• Updates Medication Administration Records in a timely and accurate manner for all clients as orders change.
• Responds to emergency situations and is a leader on shift to help support the clinical and nursing Withdrawal Management staff.
• Documents all provided services in the Withdrawal Management guest’s medical record, ensuring that required documentation is complete and compliant with regulations.
• Instructs Withdrawal Management guests in health hygiene techniques and provides support when necessary.
• Communicates with patients and families regarding treatment and care.
• Assures confidentiality is always maintained.
• Completes administrative documentation such as time sheets and time off requests in a timely manner.
• Provides all required annual documentation to Human Resources and completes all required training in a timely manner.
• Other duties as assigned
