Job summary

Potomac Center/SETT in Hagerstown, MD is seeking a part-time instructor to teach CNA classes to staff and provide hands-on CNA skills training at our MDH-SETT 1380 Marshall St. The role includes preparing clinical assignments and evaluating student progress while ensuring compliance with Title 17 Maryland regulations.

The position requires an active RN license in Maryland and the ability to conduct evaluations, with Train the Trainer certification preferred and prior CNA teaching experience

Qualifications

Introduction

We at the Potomac Center/SETT facility provide quality person‑centered support to adults with intellectual disabilities at our campus in Hagerstown, Maryland. Our aim is to partner with the community to help our residents achieve their goals. The Potomac Center is a 62‑bed licensed Intermediate Care Facility (ICF). This program focuses on using therapeutic interventions to empower residents as they learn the skills they need to successfully return to community living. The Secure Evaluation and Therapeutic Treatment (SETT) Program, located within the Potomac Center campus, is a 32‑bed licensed Forensic Residential Center that provides services to individuals with intellectual disabilities and court involvement within a safe and secure environment. The program provides assistance as they resolve their court involvement and work toward transitioning to a less secured environment. The SETT utilizes active treatment as well as providing evaluation, assessment and competency attainment education.

Main Purpose of Job

This part‑time contractual position will seek continuous improvement in teaching methodology and student‑centered learning. This position will also:

• Teach assigned courses to staff utilizing strategies and activities that promote student engagement that are in line with the requirements of the approved course
• Provide hands‑on Certified Nursing Assistant skills training
• Prepare clinical assignments and conveys them to the students/staff
• Provide verbal and written feedback to students as indicated
• Prepare students to sit for the GNA exam

This position will be assigned the schedule structure of the class. This position will be required to conduct evaluations of all lab and skill requirements of the students/staff.

This position will be responsible for discharging all duties and conducting oneself at all times according to all relevant Regulations, Standards, policies, and Procedures: Title 17 Code of Maryland Regulations; Memorandum of Understanding, Office of Health Quality; ICF and Potomac Center and SETT.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Registered Nurses.
• Experience: None.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Train the Trainer Certification
• Experience teaching CNA classes

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 or possess a current multi‑state license in party states that candidates have declared as primary states of residence.
• Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
• Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Employees in this classification are subject to call‑in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.
• Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits. Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
