Responsibilities

  • Communicates relevant patient information to health care team and supports family teaching.
  • Monitors cardiac rhythms, hemodynamics, vital signs, and reports changes to cardiology team.
  • Prepares patients including education, consent verification, and pre-procedure assessment.
  • Assists with catheterization equipment setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting for safety and efficiency.
  • Administers medications and contrast as prescribed; monitors for adverse reactions.
  • Provides immediate post-procedure care and vascular access assessment.
  • Maintains infection control, sterile technique, and radiation safety.
  • Documents procedures, responses, medications, and nursing interventions in EHR.
  • Responds to emergencies with appropriate life support measures.
  • Participates in quality improvement and ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities:

Provides leadership in the coordination and delivery of quality compassionate patient care in the cardiac catheterization laboratory setting. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide, delegate, supervise, and document care and teaching of patients and families. Effectively communicates pertinent patient and family information to the health care team. Participates in finding solutions for variances from patient goals and ensures implementation of solutions.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Monitors and interprets cardiac rhythms, hemodynamic parameters, and vital signs throughout catheterization procedures, reporting significant changes to the interventional cardiologist and care team.
  • Prepares patients for cardiac catheterization procedures, including patient education, informed consent verification, and pre-procedure assessments.
  • Assists with catheterization equipment setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal procedural efficiency and patient safety.
  • Administers medications and contrast agents as prescribed, monitoring for adverse reactions and patient responses.
  • Provides immediate post-procedure care and monitoring, including vascular access site assessment, hemostasis maintenance, and patient stabilization.
  • Maintains strict adherence to infection control protocols, sterile technique, and radiation safety standards within the catheterization laboratory environment.
  • Collaborates with interventional cardiologists, technologists, and interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes and procedural success.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of procedures, patient responses, medications administered, and nursing interventions in the electronic health record.
  • Responds promptly to emergency situations, including cardiac arrhythmias and hemodynamic instability, implementing appropriate interventions and life support measures.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and professional development to enhance clinical competency and laboratory standards.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a proven track record of clinical excellence.
  • Sharp clinical knowledge and analytical prowess to develop innovative, patient-centered nursing care plans that drive real outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional professional nursing services across diverse, complex patient scenarios.
  • Outstanding communication skills that inspire confidence in patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
  • Current, active licensure from the Michigan State Board of Nursing—your credential to lead in patient care.
  • Health care provider certification (BCLS)—demonstrating your commitment to emergency preparedness and life‑saving interventions.
