Job summary

The Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, CT is seeking a Registered Nurse for the NICU in the Family Birth Place. You will work under Nursing Leadership to apply evidence-based care and build a plan of care for complex neonatal patients.

You will collaborate with neonatologists, PAs and nurses to support families and improve outcomes. Graduate RNs enter a Nurse Residency with automatic enrollment, tuition reimbursement, and loan forgiveness programs to support professional growth

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Associate's degree in Nursing required.
  • BLS certification and CT RN licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a care plan for complex patients using evidence-based practice.
  • Deliver age-appropriate nursing care in NICU with multidisciplinary team.
  • Mentor and support graduate RNs through nurse residency.
  • Coordinate with physicians, therapists and family members.

We are looking for a Registered Nurse to work in the NICU in the Family Birth Place. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is staffed by a multidisciplinary care team that includes board-certified neonatologists (pediatricians specializing in the care of premature and sick newborns); certified pediatric physician assistants; and neonatal nurses.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of Nursing Leadership and in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes evidence-based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, and policies and procedures of the hospital. This position develops a plan of care for complex, multi-varianced population of patients, which includes standards of practice to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of the patient and family.

Qualifications
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Associate's degree in Nursing.
  • Successful completion of nurse residency, if applicable.
Experience
  • One year of experience with a minimum of 1000 hours of clinical experience as a licensed registered nurse.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Nurse, State of CT
  • Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Additional certifications may be required in specific specialties
Language Skills

Must be able to effectively communicate information in English.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
  • Applies the principles and practices of nursing.
  • Membership in a professional nursing organization preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver and evaluate patient care.
  • Cares for a full patient assignment with expanding scope of responsibilities over time.
  • Knowledge of high reliability.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Uses communication skills to foster a healthy work environment and facilitate positive patient outcomes and experience.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers.
  • Strong knowledge of and demonstrated skills in providing care for age specific populations.
  • Strong ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to act as a preceptor and charge nurse as needed.
  • Self-directed in clinical responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple clinical priorities.
  • Strong computer skills and use of industry applications/programs. Ability to learn new technology and programs as advancements and changes are implemented.
