Job summary

CHRISTUS Health is seeking a competent Nurse for Themedical-surgical unit at Shoreline Hospital. The role covers oncology, ortho, and med/surg patients with emphasis on chemotherapy/hematology and symptom management. The nurse will work within CHRISTUS Spohn’s mission to provide compassionate, high-quality care.

The position requires a BSN preferred, BLS, and RN license in the state or compact. Schedule is 7AM-7PM, full-time, and experience in related nursing specialty is preferred.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required.
• RN license in state of employment or compact license.
• 1 year nursing experience in related specialty preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation for assigned patients.
• Administer medications and treatments; monitor side-effects and effectiveness.
• Document patient history, symptoms, medications and care given.
• Educate patients, family members and/or caregivers on care plans and disease processes.

Themedical-surgicalunit at ShorelineHospitalprovides exceptionalcare for Ortho,Oncology, and Med/Surg patients.OurRNs care for patientswithelective surgeries, fractures from the ER, andmedicaloverflow.Our Inpatient Oncology departmentis the only acute inpatient unit in the region.We take care of patients who come in who may have a new or existing cancer diagnosis.We treat them with chemotherapy/hematology interventions whenindicatedor may be treating them for symptoms related to recently having chemotherapy.We also care for patients who may have a secondary diagnosis relatedto havingcancer. Summary:

The competent Nurse, in the same or similar clinical setting, practices independently and demonstrates an awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. Provides routine and complex care, with the ability to on long-range goals or plans. Continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers as a means to help manage the clinical situation.

Responsibilities:

• Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation for assigned patients.

• Using the appropriate protocol, administers medications and treatments; monitors for side-effects and effectiveness of the treatment prescribed.
• Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
• Assess learning needs and provides education to patients, family members and/or care givers; identify issues and resources.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred

Experience

• 1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty preferred
