Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved nursing school/program – Required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing – Preferred.
  • RN – Registered Nurse – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure to work in TN – Required upon hire.
  • BCLS – Basic Life Support – Required upon hire.
  • Experience in caring for patients in an inpatient setting, qualified to work with school-age, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric populations as specialty assignment dictates – Required.

Detention – Memphis, TN 38103. Full‑Time, Night shift, Non‑Travel, Nursing Services.

What you will do
  • Provide nursing care according to patients’ medical regimen and nursing interventions appropriate for the patients’ conditions and established standards, policies, and procedures, including care for ambulatory practice patients.
    • Initiate assessment based on patient presenting problems, physician diagnosis, and functional health framework.
    • Collect key information from patient, family, lab, and other medical reports.
    • Ensure consents necessary for treatment/procedure are signed and identification procedures performed.
    • Determine nursing diagnosis and priorities for care with special consideration for patient teaching, discharge planning, growth and development needs.
    • Determine which standards of care and practice apply.
    • Document assessment, including nursing diagnoses or other clinical judgments.
    • Demonstrate knowledge, technical, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills to provide care, manage clinical competency and meet age‑specific patient needs within the unit.
  • Complete ongoing assessments according to outpatient and nursing policy.
    • Re‑prioritize care based on new information.
    • Update nursing diagnoses.
    • Involve family and/or other significant individuals in assessment activities.
  • Assess, plan, and implement care of assigned patients.
    • Perform therapeutic nursing interventions as ordered by the physician.
    • Follow primary and population‑specific standards of care and practice.
    • Consider knowledge gained from initial and ongoing assessment.
    • Adhere to division policies, competencies, risk management, infection control, and patient safety practices.
    • Complete history and physical assessment.
    • Administer medication, treatments, and immunizations.
    • Prepare patient for examination/procedures; position and drape patients.
    • Control pain and monitor patient responses during treatment/procedure.
    • Initiate corrective action when monitoring or life‑support equipment indicates adverse symptomatology.
    • Coordinate patient referrals.
    • Provide patient education.
  • Document care based on standards of care and practice.
    • Record assessment and ongoing assessment findings.
    • Document updated clinical priorities.
    • Document therapeutic nursing interventions with special attention to patient education.
    • Note patient response to interventions and progress toward outcomes.
  • Respond and/or participate with medical emergencies, initiating and/or assisting with CPR/BLS as required.
  • Provide teaching to patient/family in the care of disease/condition, developing and implementing patient teaching outlines including objectives, content, teaching strategies, and evaluation of patient progress.
  • Maintain patient medical records; perform charting duties; record activities and observations; use patient computer systems to enter and retrieve data.
  • Confere and work collaboratively with patient/family/hospital staff regarding all aspects of patient needs in a customer‑responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT Standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction.
  • Provide instruction, assign, and supervise LPN and other support personnel assigned to the unit to complete the initial and ongoing assessments of patients and to provide clinical assistance as needed. Assist in the orientation and supervise new staff members and students when they provide patient care as part of their training.
  • Transport monitored patients, specimens, equipment, and supplies to and from various areas.
  • Collaborate with forensic team and security to provide a safe environment for patients in custody.
  • Complete required continuous training and education, including department‑specific requirements.
    • Attend staff meetings and mandatory in‑services; additional continuing education as required.
    • Contribute to the annual review of unit‑based scope statement and determination of important aspects of care for clinical review.
    • Assist in the development of indicators, thresholds, study methods, and data collection as assigned.
    • Respond to problems/opportunities to improve care.
    • Support and participate in the organization’s performance improvement initiatives; maintain required competencies.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel.
  • Adhere to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, and safety, environment, and infection control standards.
  • Prepare and maintain required records, reports, and files for administrative and compliance purposes.
