Part Time Nights

The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients within assigned areas utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patients.

Responsibilities
  • Provides nursing care according to medical regimen and nursing interventions appropriate for patients’ conditions and established standards, policies and procedures including care of ambulatory practice patient.
  • Initiates assessment based on patient presenting problems or needs, physician's medical diagnosis and functional health framework upon visit.
  • Collects key information from patient, family, laboratory and other medical reports.
  • Ensures consent for treatment/procedure is signed and prescribed identification procedures are carried out.
  • Determines nursing diagnosis and priorities for care, with special consideration given to patient teaching, discharge planning, and growth and development needs.
  • Determines applicable standards of care and practice for the patient.
  • Documents assessment including nursing diagnoses or other clinical judgments.
  • Demonstrates knowledge, technical, interpersonal and critical thinking skills to provide care and manage clinical competency, meeting age‑specific patient needs within the unit.
  • Completes ongoing assessments according to outpatient and nursing policy; re‑prioritizes care based on new information; updates nursing diagnoses; involves family or significant individuals in assessment activities.
  • Assesses, plans and implements care of assigned patients with therapeutic nursing interventions as ordered by physician; consistent with primary and population‑specific standards of care and practice; considers information from initial and ongoing assessments; follows nursing division policies, risk management, infection control and patient safety; aligns with unit nature (history and physical assessment, medication, treatments, immunizations, preparation for examination/procedures, pain control, assistance during examination, monitoring responses, corrective actions, referrals, patient education).
  • Documents care based on standards of care and practice, including ongoing assessment findings, updated clinical priorities, therapeutic nursing interventions with emphasis on patient education, and patient response and progress toward outcomes.
  • Responds to medical emergencies, initiates or assists with CPR/BLS as required.
  • Provides teaching to patient/family in care of disease/condition; develops and implements patient teaching outlines with objectives, content, strategies and evaluation of progress.
  • Maintains patient medical records; performs charting duties; records activities and observations; utilizes patient computer systems to enter and retrieve data.
  • Collaborates with patient/family/hospital staff regarding all aspects of patient needs in a customer‑responsive and courteous manner, complying with iRESPECT Standards and promoting satisfaction.
  • Provides instruction, assigns and supervises LPN and other support personnel; oversees new staff members and students during training.
  • Transports monitored patients, specimens, equipment and supplies across areas.
  • Collaborates with forensic team and security to provide safe environment for patients in custody.
  • Completes required continuous training and education; attends staff meetings, mandatory in‑services, continuing education; contributes to annual review of unit‑based scope statement; assists in development of indicators, thresholds, study methods, data collection; responds to opportunities to improve care; supports performance improvement initiatives; maintains competencies.
  • Maintains clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel; adheres to policies, compliance/quality improvement, safety, environment and infection control standards.
  • Prepares and maintains required records, reports and files for administrative and compliance purposes.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved nursing school/program.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (preferred).
  • Registered Nurse (RN) – State Licensure or Compact State Licensure to work in TN (required upon hire).
  • BCLS – Basic Life Support (required upon hire).
  • Experience in caring for patients in an inpatient setting; qualified to work with school‑age, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric populations as per specialty assignment (required).
