Job summary

Oroville Hospital in Oroville, CA seeks a Registered Nurse for the High Acuity Medical–Surgical Unit. You will plan, organize, and evaluate patient care for diverse ages, coordinating with patients, families, and the care team.

You will supervise patient care activities, delegate tasks, and document accordingly, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • Current BLS from the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers.
  • Current ACLS.
  • Current PALS.
  • Stroke Certification.
  • 1 Year Med/Surg RN experience preferred.
  • All RNs assigned to the unit will have completed the Oroville Hospital HAMS orientation.
  • Basic EKG course within 3 months of hire.
  • Complete all specific annual competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts an initial and on-going assessment designed to gather data relevant to the patient’s individual needs taking into consideration specific needs for age.
  • Review of assessments of patients: Respiratory; Cardiac; Neurologic; Renal; Multisystem and Psychosocial.
  • Implements a plan of care with families in collaboration.
  • Identifies nursing diagnoses or problems based on patients assessments and formulates etiologies.
  • Identifies desired outcomes and determines nursing interventions to reach them.
  • Prioritizes patient care activities and delegates nursing tasks.
  • Provides, delegates and supervises care for medical and surgical patients.
  • Evaluates patient response to interventions and documents progress.
  • Reports changes in patient status to charge nurse or physician.
  • Documents nursing care in accordance with hospital charting standards.
  • Adheres to hospital policy for receiving doctors’ orders and orientations.
  • Orients patients and families to unit environment and policies.
  • Relates unit policy regarding visitors to family and friends.
  • Remains vigilant in handing off reports to oncoming shift.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse working in the High Acuity Medical – Surgical Unit is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating patient care of patients of all ages pediatric to geriatric. The RN coordinates, delegates, and provides direct nursing care for patients by working cooperatively with patients, family members, and all patient care team members. The RN provides supervision for patient team members in accordance with their level of training and the patient’s acuity.

Duties
  • Conducts an initial and on-going assessment designed to gather data relevant to the patient’s individual needs taking into consideration specific needs for age
  • Review of assessments of patients: Respiratory; Cardiac; Neurologic; Renal; Multisystem and Psychosocial
  • In collaboration with the patient families, implements a plan of care:
  • Identifies nursing diagnoses or problems based on patients assessments
  • Formulates an etiology for nursing diagnosis
  • Identifies desired outcomes each nursing diagnosis/problem
  • Determines nursing intervention to reach outcomes
  • Prioritizes patient care activities
  • Provides, delegates and supervises care for medical and surgical patients
  • Evaluates patient’s response to interventions/reassesses and documents on patient’s record
  • Establishes priorities for patient care activities
  • Delegates nursing activities to appropriate staff
  • Reports changes in patient’s status to charge nurse or physician, and staff caring for patient
  • Documents nursing care consistent with hospital charting standards
  • Complies with hospital policy for receiving doctors’ orders, including verbal and phone
  • Orients patients and family to unit environment as able
  • Relates unit policy regarding visitors to family and friends
  • Accurately gives report to oncoming shift
  • Report extraordinary patient problems to supervisor, Nurse Executive or administrator as necessary
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Lifting Requirements: Work area is well lighted and ventilated. Regularly exposed to the risks of blood borne and airborne diseases. Contact with patients in a wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to noise, chemicals, communicable diseases, and hazardous materials. Wears personal protective equipment as required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to handle or feel objects, or controls; each with hands and arms; and talk to hear. The employee is frequently required to walk or stand for extended periods, occasionally required to sit, balance; stoop, kneel or crouch.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with help.
