Job summary

GEO Corrections & Detentions is seeking a Registered Nurse to deliver high-quality care to inmates/detainees in a secure facility. You will collaborate with physicians to provide comprehensive nursing services and ensure patient safety.

The role emphasizes accurate assessments, timely medication administration, documentation, and adherence to regulatory standards in a correctional setting.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state where the facility is located.
  • Two years of direct nursing experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and use nursing software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to inmates/detainees within capacity and refer issues to physicians as needed.
  • Conduct comprehensive physical assessments and document medical history.
  • Monitor patient symptoms and progress, report concerns to physicians and management.
  • Administer prescribed medications safely and prevent hoarding/trafficking.
  • Educate patients on chronic illnesses, post-hospitalization and procedures.
  • Supervise LPN staff and participate in performance evaluations.
  • Maintain confidential medical records and adhere to accreditation policies.

Responsibilities

Working alongside our Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you'll play a vital part in providing the highest level of Nursing care to inmates/detainees while putting a special focus on maintaining our safe and secure workplace.

  • Provide nursing care within your capacity and refer other medical problems to the appropriate physician.
  • Perform comprehensive physical assessment and medical history.
  • Periodically evaluate patients' symptoms, reactions, and progress, and report problems to Physician and management.
  • Securely administer medication, taking precautions against drug hoarding and trafficking.
  • Make sure prescribed medications are administered as instructed.
  • Provide patient education for Chronic Illnesses, post-hospitalization, post-surgical procedures.
  • Supervises the workflow of the LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) staff and provides input into performance evaluation.
  • Document all detainee/inmate contacts and keep medical records confidential.
  • Follow industry and company accreditation policies.

Minimum Requirements
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree from an approved program; graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Must have a current, unrestricted license to practice as Registered Nurse in the state the facility is located. Maintains a current copy of license on file at the facility at all times.
  • Two (2) years of direct work experience preferred.
  • Must possess competence in the performance of the following services: crisis intervention, medical emergencies, physical assessment, medical nursing care, and psychiatric nursing care.
  • Must have the ability to work without direct, immediate supervision in performing nursing diagnosis, and be able provide appropriate follow through treatment.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently: Lift or carry and push/pull up to 40 lbs.; walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop and reach above shoulder level.
  • Occasionally: Lift or carry and push/pull up to 60 lbs.; work with machinery and climb.
