Job summary

Position Summary

Under direct supervision and within established scope of practice, the Ambulatory Care Registered Nurse ensures the delivery of patient-centered services as directed by organizational policies and procedures in a clinic setting.

Essential Functions Of The Job
  • Uphold the organization's Policies and Procedures, Core Values, and competencies, as well as applicable state, federal, and local laws.
  • Perform assessment/data collection focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status; including nutrition, pain, patient/family education, family involvement, and patient advocacy.
  • Document pertinent patient information, nursing procedures, and patient responses in patients' medical records, following established guidelines and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Establish patient care priorities based on essential patient needs and availability of unit resources (time, personnel, equipment, and supplies).
  • Identify patient/family learning needs and act to meet them.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights, age-specific needs, cultural, and ethical beliefs.
  • Provide/coordinate care for patients/patient populations.
  • Establish effective working relationships with members of the health care team, patients, and families.
  • Delegate appropriately and coordinate duties/activities of health care team members.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care given by team members.
  • Implement patient care functions including but not limited to: sterile wound dressing/packing, urine catheter insertion/removal, suture and staple removal.
  • Utilize effective communication methods and skills, following lines of authority as appropriate.
  • Handle clinic use medication inventories and orders, replenish medical supplies, medications, and materials as needed, and maintain clinic inventory logs.
  • Prepare and administer medications per standing orders and as directed by physician orders, in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and apply safety principles as identified by the organization.
  • Lead efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
  • Oversee the autoclave process to ensure the cleaning, processing, sterilizing, and checking of instruments is in compliance to meet audit and infection control requirements.
  • Coordinate immunization oversight of clinic's daily routine workflow, excursion reporting process, and emergency vaccine management plan.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.
  • Participate regularly in staff development trainings and activities for clinic to support continuous quality improvement.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management in all aspects of patient care and unit functioning.
  • Participate in unit and department Performance and Quality Improvement activities.
  • Participate in nursing research activities as requested.
  • Provide data for staffing decisions and demonstrate flexibility in the resolution of staffing issues; demonstrate flexibility when floating to other units upon requests.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunication modalities in documenting, tracking, and conveying information.
  • If practicing in a specialty/extended role, fulfill the expectations established for the particular role.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary. This job has no supervisory responsibility.

Job Requirements
Experience Preferred
  • 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse
Education Required
  • High School Diploma/GED

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Continuous standing/walking/twisting.
  • Occasionally lifts, pushes, and/or transfers patients.
  • Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, and illness).
  • Reliable transportation necessary for traveling to assist with providing coverage as needed throughout all clinic locations.
  • Ability to work a varied, 40 hours per week schedule to include evenings and/or weekends, between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm.
Universal Requirements
  • Pre-employment requirements include I-9, positive background and reference check results, complete application, new hire orientation, and completion of employee health screening.

  • Maintain privacy of all patients, employee, and volunteer information and access such information only on a need-to-know basis for business purposes.
  • Comply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations. Report unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful behavior or activity.
OSHA Compliance
  • Comply with all regulations and required schedules regarding OSHA training.
PPD Compliance
  • Required health screening to be performed annually.

  • Responsible for following all organizational policies and procedures.
Meal Period Compliance (Non-exempt employees only)
  • Punch out before 5 hours from the start of shift for meal periods.
Sexual Harassment Training
  • Comply with all regulations and required schedules regarding sexual harassment training.
