Job description

Position Summary

The RN Nurse Faculty is required to complete all DHS training requirements to become a certified nurse trainer and to then meet all requirements of the Nurse Trainer Success profile in addition to ensuring that all medical needs are met for all persons served on their caseload, ensuring that persons served and their guardians are involved in maintaining their own health services to the best of their ability. He/she is required to complete all DHS training requirements to become a certified nurse trainer

Physical Demands

The RN Nurse Faculty position involves sitting up to 8 hours per day, repetitive typing, bending, the ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, fine motor manipulations, talk, hear and complete repetitive motions. The position involves working in indoor and potentially outdoor environments.

Schedule

The RN Nurse Faculty spends a majority of their working hours in the field working directly with clients and Direct Support Professionals. This time would accumulate to average a minimum of 25% of working hours. Achieving this involves working weekly evening hours and monthly weekend hours and will vary depending on the needs of our clients. This is a full-time position that requires a staff member to work a minimum of 80 hours per two-week period.

  • The RN Nurse Faculty must possess a current valid Illinois Registered Nurse license
  • Must have two years clinical experience within the last 5 years and at least one year of experience serving persons with developmental disabilities.
  • Must be a DHS/DDD approved Nurse Trainer.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must possess the necessary sensory abilities in order that all of the job responsibilities described in this success profile are adequately fulfilled.
  • Must take and successfully pass the TABE test.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Must successfully pass all required background checks.
  • Must possess/demonstrate excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks at once.
  • Must exhibit regular and predictable attendance.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands described in the Physical Demands section of this profile.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide the necessary training to ensure that newly hired Direct Support Professionals, QIDPs, and Management Directors, and other staff as directed complete the DHS/DDD required medication administration classroom training within 30 days of being placed on the DHS habilitation Aide registry.
  • Provide the necessary training to ensure that newly hired Direct Support Professionals, QIDPs, and Site Supervisors, and other staff as directed complete the DHS required medication administration on-the-job training (OJT) and competency-based testing assessments (CBTAs) within 30 days of being placed on the DHS habilitation Aide registry.
  • Completing annual Self-Administration of Medication Assessment (SAMA’s) and Physical Status Review (PSR’s) for all people served on an annual basis to coincide with their annual Community Support Team meeting and submit them to the appropriate QIDP before the day of that meeting.
  • Reviews of the medication administration process including checking MAR’s and medications and witnessing medication administration in the homes.
  • Provide follow-up training for authorized staff of all medication changes prior to that staff member passing the new or changed medication.
  • Teach other medical classes and on-the-job learning activities as directed by the VP of Health Services or President/CEO.
  • Complete documentation of all training activities in the form of attendance sign-in sheets, CBTA forms and written quizzes/tests (for classroom training). Documentation of all training must be filed in each staff member’s personnel file. An email must be sent to the VP of Health Services listing all training sessions, dates of those sessions and whether the staff member passed or failed.
  • Generate a General Event Record and report to the President/CEO any incidents involving staff members not successfully completing their training, falling asleep in class, etc.
  • Anything else you can think of to make our mission, vision and the 21 personal outcome measures a reality for our clients.
  • All other duties as assigned by the VP of Health Services.
