About the role

  • The Registered Nurse / Clinical Trials Administrator will support both Professional Corporation (PC) operations and Clinical Trial Administration by providing safe, high-quality nursing care, infusion coordination and monitoring, accurate documentation, and administrative support for clinical research activities. This role requires an active Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia, demonstrated IV/infusion experience, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities. Prior clinical research experience is preferred.

What you'll do

Clinical Trials Administration:

  • Provide administrative support to Study Coordinators for ongoing Clinical Trials for your respective site location.
  • Ensure that trial-related activities are conducted in accordance with study protocols and ICH GCP guidelines.
  • Apply nursing judgment within the RN scope of practice when supporting clinical trial visits, including assessment, patient education, safety monitoring, and escalation of clinical concerns to the Principal Investigator or appropriate provider.
  • Perform protocol-required clinical assessments and procedures, including vital signs, ECG/EKG collection, phlebotomy, and other visit-related assessments, in accordance with study protocol, training, delegation, and RN scope of practice.
  • Administer and document cognitive and neuropsychological testing, rating scales, and study questionnaires as permitted by protocol requirements, sponsor training, delegation logs, and site procedures.
  • Manage essential trial documentation, ensuring consistency with electronic records.
  • Maintain accurate records and update patient files accordingly.
  • Perform data entry and resolve study-related data queries promptly.
  • Assist in maintaining study binders and ensure accuracy of study documentation.
  • Verify patient files post-visit to ensure completeness of procedures and assessments.
  • Assist with collection, processing, labelling, documentation, and chain-of-custody requirements for study-related specimens as permitted by protocol, training, and scope of practice.
  • Assist with subject visit tracking, clinic scheduling, and finance tracking.
  • Support development of source documents for clinical trials.
  • Ensure reception coverage when necessary, providing excellent patient interaction.

Professional Corporation Support:

  • Coordinate and provide nursing support for patient visits involving monoclonal antibody infusions, including pre-infusion review, patient education, infusion readiness, and post-infusion follow-up as applicable.
  • Start, maintain, monitor, and discontinue peripheral IV access and infusion therapy in accordance with provider orders, applicable protocols, manufacturer guidance, and organizational policies.
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after infusion therapy for adverse reactions, changes in condition, or safety concerns, and initiate appropriate clinical escalation, emergency response, and documentation according to policy.
  • Schedule appointments, scans, lab tests, and follow-up visits in collaboration with physicians and external providers.
  • Manage appointment confirmations, rescheduling, and patient reminders.
  • Liaise with radiology centers, laboratories, and external medical providers.
  • Work closely with the Practice Manager and physicians to ensure an efficient patient flow.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records.
  • Facilitate secure transmission of medical documents between referring physicians and internal teams.
  • Ensure HIPAA and GDPR compliance in handling patient data.
  • Serve as a point of contact for referring physicians regarding patient progress and documentation.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings to discuss patient updates and workflow improvements.
  • Ensure smooth collaboration between clinical research and PC teams.
  • Perform vital signs assessments (blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, etc.).
  • Conduct electrocardiograms (EKGs) and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Maintain clinical competence in infusion-related workflows, emergency procedures, medication safety, infection prevention, patient privacy, and documentation standards relevant to the RN role.

Qualifications

  • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Virginia or valid multistate RN license permitting practice in Virginia
  • Current BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred
  • Prior experience administering and/or monitoring IV infusions required
  • Experience in neurology, memory care, Alzheimer’s disease treatment, or clinical research preferred.
