Job Summary

Provides clinical and administrative assistance in the delivery of patient care during the clinic hours of operation and assisting with patient cases remotely during non-clinic hours. Reports to Diversity Health Clinic Management and directly assists Medical Providers.

General Responsibilities

• Help contact and release lab results to patients.
• Schedule and provide treatment.
• Act with maximum independent discretion, making decisions and acting on own without provider approval.
• Answer patient calls and questions from patients inquiring about symptoms and diagnoses from the dedicated RN line.
• Collect patient history and conduct lab procedures.
• Refer patient calls and questions to the appropriate Provider.
• Serve as a backup to Lab/Medical Assistants and Phlebotomists as needed.
• Facilitate patient flow along with the Clinic Manager and Providers.
• Check lab results and communicate medical results and other information to patients in a timely manner.
• Help provide oral and injectable treatment.
• Schedule patients for appointments and treatments.
• Document communications with patients regarding symptoms and diagnoses.
• Manage the Electronic Medical Records system, including monitoring Medical Provider in-boxes, responding to communications and transferring documents to correct locations.
• Act as first-line communication with the Metro Health Department as needed and respond promptly.
• Provide general Medical Provider support and assistance.
• Work with Clinic Managers and Medical Providers to implement and maintain clinic policies and procedures.
• Maintain patient confidentiality according to the clinic’s policies and procedures and HIPAA guidelines.
• Complete initial preliminary testing, preparation and information gathering with patients and communicate results to the Medical Provider on duty.
• Contact PEP patients for follow-up procedures and communications at 30 day or 45 day periods.
• Complete any other duties as assigned within the staff member’s training and experience.

Job Qualifications

• Currently active RN license in good standing and authorized to practice in Tennessee.
• Able to work on-site at Music City PrEP Clinic or Chosen Family Medicine during all hours that the clinic is open.
• Abachelor of science in nursing (BSN), or a diploma from an accredited and an approved nursing program.
• Must have the ability to observe, document, and communicate lab-related issues, and to exercise independent judgment, well-informed decision-making, and problem-solving.
• Must demonstrate good communication skills, interpersonal skills, team-building skills, and professional demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years direct patient care experience.
• Working knowledge of infection control and universal precautions.
• Working experience with acquiring and processing lab specimens.
