Job summary

NEW MEXICO BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE LL in Albuquerque seeks an experienced Registered Nurse to join an inpatient behavioral health unit. You will evaluate and respond to patients’ physical, psychological, and social needs with the multidisciplinary team.

You will administer medications, transcribe orders, draw labs, provide wound care, and participate in treatment planning, with a focus on safety, de-escalation, and quality of care.

Qualifications

  • New Mexico RN license or ability to obtain license.
  • Experience providing inpatient behavioral health care.
  • CPR certification, Level I NM Fingerprint Clearance, and ability to pass required clearances/background checks.
  • Flexible to a fast-paced environment, with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Able to work weekends and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients and document triage, behavioral health, physical health and substance abuse issues.
  • Provide crisis intervention with de-escalation to ensure safety.
  • Transcribe medical orders and administer prescribed medications.
  • Perform chart checks and sign off on medications.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning.
  • Draw labs and provide wound care as ordered.
  • Educate patients and team on behavioral health diagnoses, medications, and treatments.
  • Maintain training/certifications as required.
  • Attend meetings and share information to improve services.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the unit and common areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the DON, Registered Nurses work closely with the Medical Director, and other multidisciplinary team members to identify, assess and respond to a wide range of physical, psychological and social needs of the patient.

Essential Duties:
  • Assess patients and documents pertinent information including triage, behavioral health, physical health and/or substance abuse issues.
  • Provides support and participates during crisis intervention with ability to de-escalate potentially aggressive situation, and intervenes with appropriate interventions, to ensure the patient’s safety and the safety of others.
  • Transcribes Medical Provider orders and administers prescribed medications.
  • Performs chart checks and signs off on noted medications.
  • Participates in the planning of patient treatment as part of the multidisciplinary clinical team.
  • Draws labs and provides wound care as medically required or ordered.
  • Assist as requested to provide education to patients, and team regarding behavioral health diagnosis, medications, and treatments
  • Maintains and completes all training requirements, and certifications as required by position to be in compliance.
  • Attends and participates in regularly scheduled meetings and provides information to improve the quality of services or to resolve issues.
  • Assist with maintaining and ensuring the cleanliness of the assigned unit and all other common areas utilized by the patients.
  • Other responsibilities as may be assigned.
Qualification Requirements:
  • New Mexico Registered Nurse (RN) license or ability to obtain license.
  • Experience providing inpatient behavioral health care.
  • Must have current CPR, Level I NM Fingerprint Clearance, and able to pass required clearances, and background checks.
  • Must be flexible to adjust to the needs of a fast-paced environment, demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, and display proficient oral/written communication skills
  • Must be able and willing to work selected available shift including weekends, and holidays.
Language Skills:
  • Ability to read, write, and document as required for patient medical charts, patient case notes, incident reports, and data into Electronic Health Record.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients and team members.
  • Reasoning ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Computer Skills:

Must be able to use a computer, read a computer monitor or notebook screen. as required to enter data into Electronic Health Records and to enter data into a time and attendance system required for payroll processing. Knowledge of MS Office and email software is required.
