Job summary

Mercy Health’s Springfield Imaging & Lab seeks a Registered Mammography Technologist to produce high-quality breast imaging in accordance with ARRT, ACR, and MQSA guidelines.

The role involves performing screening, diagnostic, invasive, and DEXA scans, supporting radiologists, and ensuring patient safety and education throughout procedures.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Radiologic Technology; ARRT certification required.
  • ARRT certification in Diagnostic Radiology is required.
  • Advanced modality registration in Mammography is preferred, or to be obtained within 12 months.
  • State licensure preferred unless required by the state where the job is performed.
  • BLS from American Heart Association required at hire for some Mercy Health locations; preferred at hire, required before independent patient care at others.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all breast imaging and DEXA procedures.
  • Assists radiologist in invasive breast procedures with aseptic technique and proper consent.
  • Correlates patient history with procedure and documents information for licensed provider access.
  • Operates breast imaging equipment and selects appropriate radiographic exposure factors.
  • Applies radiation protection principles to minimize exposure.
  • Ensures patient safety during all mammographic procedures.
  • Provides patient education and discharge instructions.
  • Participates in department quality assessments and improvement plans.

Registered Mammography Technologist - Springfield Imaging & Lab
Job Summary
The Registered Mammography Technologist produces high quality breast imaging procedures while following guidelines established by the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist), ACR (American College of Radiology) and MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act and Program). They will perform all screening, diagnostic, invasive, and DEXA (dual energy X-ray absorptiometry) scans according to established protocols and procedures for interpretation by supervising physician.
Essential Functions

  • Performs all breast imaging and DEXA procedures.
  • Assists the radiologist in invasive breast procedures, ensuring aseptic technique and consent is obtained by performing physician.
  • Correlates patient's clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed provider. Conveys patient's clinical history to licensed provider prior to examination.
  • Selects and operates breast imaging equipment and associated devices to achieve desired results.
  • Selects appropriate radiographic technique exposure factors to produce quality diagnostic images.
  • Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Applies the principles of patient safety during all aspects of the mammographic procedures.
  • Provides patient education and discharge instructions.
  • Participates in the department's quality assessments and improvement plans.

Education
  • Associate's from an ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) accredited institute (preferred)
Required Licensing & Certifications
  • Certification and Registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) in Diagnostic Radiology (required)
  • Advanced modality registration in Mammography, ARRT (preferred, or must obtain within 1 year)
  • State Licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is being performed)
  • BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
Experience
  • 1 year experience as a registered mammography technologist (preferred)
