Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking an inpatient nutrition specialist to provide focused nutrition care across telemetry, medical/surgical, critical care, and geriatric psychiatry units.

You will screen patients, develop individualized care plans, interview and educate patients and families, and document assessments while mentoring interns and collaborating with the care team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nutrition with ACEND supervised practice.
• RD eligibility and will become RD within 180 days of hire.
• Massachusetts licensure required or within 120 days of registration.
• 1–3 years of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Screens hospital patients to prioritize nutrition care.
• Develops tailored nutrition care plans reflecting medical data.
• Interviews patients/families and assesses nutritional knowledge.
• Documents initial and follow-up assessments per guidelines.
• Instructs patients on prescribed diets using suitable materials.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• 1. Screens appropriate hospital patients to prioritize patients to be seen.
• 2. Develops appropriate nutritional care plans for each patient to reflect current medical history, nutritional status, laboratory data, and through completing a Nutrition Focused Physical Exam.
• 3. Interviews patients and/or family members, and assesses the nutritional status and/or knowledge of diet when appropriate
• 4. Documents initial and follows up nutritional assessments and recommendations according to department guidelines.
• 5. When indicated, instructs patients and family members, when needed, on prescribed diets using educational materials appropriate for patients’ learning abilities.
• 6. Serves as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team
• 7. Mentors interns during their clinical rotation, providing guidance on appropriate nutrition care for patients.

Qualifications

• 1. Basic Education Requirements: Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and supervised practice as dictated by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) (Note: For those seeking registration after 2023, a master’s degree will be required)
• 2. Credentialed through the Commission of Dietetic Registration, or Registration Eligible, and will become an RD within 180 days of hire
• 3. Massachusetts state licensure or within 120 days of registration
• 4. 1-3 years of experience, preferred
• 5. Maintains dietetic registration, Massachusetts licensure, and continuing education requirements.
• 6. Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with physicians, patients, family members, nurses, and others

Physical Requirements & Environment:

• 1. Normal hospital and patient care environment.
• 3. Must be able to walk or maneuver long distances throughout the hospital.

Pay Range:

$31.00 - $46.06

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geographyof work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
