Job summary

Kaweah Health in Visalia, CA seeks a Registered Dietetic Technician (DTR) to provide high-quality nutrition care under supervision of a Registered Dietitian. You will review orders, screen patients for nutrition risk, educate patients and families, and support department operations in the scope of practice.

Responsibilities include implementing care plans, conducting screenings, documenting progress, and educating on diet plans.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of IDDSI standards, therapeutic diets, and nutrition documentation systems.
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition principles and dietary modifications for health conditions.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology and diet order interpretation.

Responsibilities

  • Implements and monitors individualized nutrition care plans as directed by the Registered Dietitian.
  • Conducts nutrition screenings to identify patients at nutritional risk.
  • Monitors patient tolerance with diets, nutritional intake, and clinical progress; reports changes to the dietitian.
  • Educates patients, families, and caregivers on diet plans, special diets, and nutrition guidelines.
  • Provides nutrition counseling for general health promotion and disease management within the scope of practice.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Documentation: completes documentation in the medical record according to facility policies and guidelines.
  • Participates in quality assurance, performance improvement, and safety initiatives.
  • Team Collaboration: works with the Registered Dietitian, dietary staff, nursing, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Assists in development and teaching of department in-services.

The Registered Dietetic Technician (DTR) works under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian to provide high-quality nutrition care to patients, residents, clients, and/or the community. This role supports the clinical nutrition team by reviewing consult orders, screening patients for nutrition risk, educating patients and families, and assisting the Food & Nutrition Department operations within the scope of practice.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • License /Certification Required: Dietetic Technician Registered (DTR) ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification within six months of hire/transfer.
  • Experience: Preferred: Experience in healthcare, long-term care, school nutrition, or community nutrition programs.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of IDDSI standards, therapeutic diets, and nutrition documentation systems.
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition principles and dietary modifications for health conditions.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology and diet order interpretation.
  • Excellent communication, education, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Competence in computer applications and electronic health records.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Implements and monitors individualized nutrition care plans as directed by the Registered Dietitian.
  • Conducts nutrition screenings to identify patients at nutritional risk.
  • Monitors patient tolerance with diets, nutritional intake, and clinical progress; reports changes to the dietitian.
  • Educates patients, families, and caregivers on diet plans, special diets, and nutrition guidelines.
  • Provides nutrition counseling for general health promotion and disease management within the scope of practice.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Documentation: Completes documentation in the medical record according to facility policies, regulatory guidelines, and professional standards.
  • Supports compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., CMS, Joint Commission, IDDSI, state health department).
  • Participates in quality assurance, performance improvement, and safety initiatives.
  • Team Collaboration and Training: Works closely with the Registered Dietitian, dietary staff, nursing, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Assists in the development of and teaching department in-services.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and continuing education to maintain credentials and professional growth.
  • Additional Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay Range $30.17 -$45.26
