Overview

Work for a Federally Qualified Health Center. Dental Assistant I is responsible for preparing patients, sterilizing instruments, setting up rooms, and some dental hygiene tasks. To do well in this role you should have a dental radiology certification.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Support personnel for Dental Assistant II, Hygienists, and All Dentists.
  • Actively deliver a positive patient experience by striving to keep patients focused on the best possible treatment.
  • Educate patients in oral care and ensure the sterility of instruments and operatory before subsequent patients arrive.
  • Chair‑side dental assisting.
  • Provide postoperative instructions as directed by the dentist.
  • Perform the setup and breakdown of all operatory equipment, instruments, and documents on time, to meet regulatory and compliance requirements and to keep the doctor on schedule with daily patient care.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of all dental equipment and instruments.
  • Perform radiographs: periapical, bitewing, occlusal, and panoramic.
  • Temporary assignment to front desk duties, including answering telephones, scheduling appointments, filing charts, copying, and prep charting.
  • Laundry.
  • Compliance with all policies and procedures including Joint Commission Standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality for patients and patient’s records.
  • Report any concerns of patients or dental clinic to Dental Assistant II promptly.
  • Other duties as assigned by Dental Assistant II, Practice Manager or Dental Director.
  • Proficiency in taking impressions using alginate and imperium material.
Education, Licensure/Certification
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification required.
  • Registered Dental Assistant license required.
Experience, Skills/Abilities Related Requirements
  • Must be able to stand for at least 1 hour.
  • Must be able to hear (needs to be able to communicate with dentist or other personnel while all are wearing masks and holding instruments).
  • Must be able to wear latex or vinyl gloves.
  • OSHA/Jurisprudence/Radiology Certification.
Continuing Education And Training Requirements
  • Participates in trainings required by the agency, funding source(s), and/or as required by licensure if applicable.
