DESCRIPTION:

Provide support and supervision for students with moderate to severe disabilities in special education and/or general education classes, including the modification of instructional tools, equipment and materials, and/or alter the instructional environment as appropriate based on individual student needs under the direction and supervision of a certified Behavior Consultant. This individual may also be responsible to provide direct supervision to students during recess, before/after school parent drop-off/pick-up and/or transitioning on/off the school bus. They will collect data, conduct observations and support the maintenance of student records as well as assist the certified staff in transferring information into data management systems as needed. This position may require the individual to provide direct support and supervision to students with severe behavior, social and/or emotional disabilities enrolled in a district managed school. The Paraprofessional may provide supervision and/or instruction to students in a variety of settings, such as: one-on-one, large or small group settings as well as inclusionary support in and out of the general education classroom.

SALARY:

Classified Grade N, starting at $23.20 based on previous job experience, 8.5 hours per day, Tuesday - Friday, on the 4-day/9-month work schedule, paid over 12 month. Eligible for benefits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with implementing and monitoring student's behavioral related programming in a 1:1 or small group setting, behavior intervention plans in a variety of settings under the direction and supervision of the Behavior Consultant.
  • Collect data on behavior programming and report out to 27J Behavioral Consultant.
  • Directs and assists with Paraprofessional trainings as directed and required by the Behavior Consultant. Instruct students in school programs and complete verbal debriefing and/or written documentation of student intervention outcomes to Behavior Consultant/staff.
  • Supervise and support students while they are on campus, including monitoring of the lunchroom, playground, or other educational settings, parent drop-off/pick-up and/or transitioning on/off the school bus to promote safety and security at all times, communicate with certified staff as necessary to ensure they are informed of student specific situations/needs.
  • Modify and/or adapt instructional materials and/or equipment as well as the environment to support the participation of students within their academic environment including when in the general education classroom under the direction of Behavior Consultant. Assist in presentation of in-service programs to staff.
  • Assist with the collection and maintenance classroom observation and data collection for IEP goals/objectives progress monitoring as well as with the input of the data into appropriate computer based system under the supervision of the Behavior Consultant.
  • De-escalate students as needed and appropriate using approved Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) measures as well as in accordance with their prescribed and approved Behavior Intervention Plan.
  • Observes confidentiality and safeguards all student related information.
  • Participate in special education team meetings, building staff meeting, as well as trainings and professional development as directed by the building Administration, direct supervisor, and Special Education Coordinator.

Attend student staffings and/or parent meetings at the request of the Behavior Consultant or Special Education Coordinator.

EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Individual must have a minimum of 3 years working with school-aged students.
  • Prefer an individual who has 1 or more years experience working with students with disabilities, but not required.

Experience working with students with social/emotional/behavioral needs beneficial.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) preferred at time of hire or obtained within 60 calendar days from date of hire
  • Registered Behavior technician certificate
  • Individuals are required to monitor their certifications to ensure they are current at all time while in this position. Lack of a valid certification could result in temporary suspension and/or termination.

Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be able to obtain Registered Behavior Technician certificate (RBT)
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as Behavior Plans, IEP, staff and student handbooks
  • Competent in basic academic skills (reading, math, and writing) in order to support students within their academic program
  • Experience with PowerPoint, Microsoft, and other administrative tasks
  • Ability to collect data, write routine reports and simple correspondences
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from general or special education teachers and related services providers
  • ?Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with disabled students requiring various academic personal care needs
  • Able to work independently, yet able to take directives and follow through
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills helpful
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds
  • Must be able to pass a post offer, pre-employment physical
  • Must be able to pass a Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check
