Practical Skills clinic is seeking a compassionate and dependable Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) to support middle school students with a variety of developmental, behavioral, and educational needs in a life‑skills classroom. Position Details
  • Position: Registered Behavior Technician
  • Setting: Middle school life‑skills classroom
  • Schedule: 11‑month position following the Norwalk Public Schools calendar
  • Pay: $24–$26 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
  • Classification: Hourly, non‑exempt
  • Reports to: Board Certified Behavior Analyst and designated school personnel
  • Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 401(k), subject to eligibility requirements

Essential Responsibilities

The Registered Behavior Technician will:

  • Maintain student dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times
  • Protect confidential student, educational, clinical, and health information
  • Implement behavior support plans and treatment protocols as written and supervised by a BCBA
  • Implement individualized educational, behavioral, communication, and life‑skills goals
  • Follow classroom routines, student schedules, data‑collection procedures, and safety protocols
  • Support students in developing functional communication, tolerance, cooperation, self‑advocacy, and independence
  • Assist students with functional academics and daily living skills
  • Support participation in classroom, school, vocational, and community‑based activities
  • Use prompting, reinforcement, task analysis, visual supports, and other approved teaching strategies
  • Implement Skills‑Based Treatment procedures when directed and trained by the supervising BCBA
  • Respond to challenging behavior using approved, compassionate, and least‑restrictive procedures
  • Communicate relevant student information to the supervising BCBA and educational team
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, competency reviews, and ongoing training
  • Interact professionally with students, families, school staff, colleagues, and community members
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries
Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must:

  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Hold an active Registered Behavior Technician credential
  • Maintain all requirements necessary to keep the RBT credential active and in good standing
  • Successfully complete required background checks and employment screenings
  • Demonstrate competency in skills covered during required training
  • Be able to understand and implement written treatment plans, protocols, and data‑collection procedures
  • Be dependable and able to maintain consistent attendance
  • Be able to work collaboratively within a school‑based team
Physical and Communication Requirements

The employee must be able to:

  • Move between seated and standing positions throughout the workday
  • Walk, stand, and circulate for extended periods
  • Respond quickly when needed to support student safety
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds
  • Communicate clearly in spoken and written English
  • Hear and understand speech at a normal conversational volume
  • Read policies, procedures, treatment plans, educational materials, and data sheets
  • Observe student behavior and environmental conditions accurately
