Job summary

Capital Insurance Group in Spokane, WA is seeking an experienced Underwriting Team Leader for Ag Lines to lead day-to-day production, maintain underwriting quality, and manage up to eight underwriters in a hybrid office/remote setting.

You will provide technical direction on Ag Lines, oversee new and existing business, ensure compliance with regulations, and develop leadership within the team while handling large, complex accounts and strong agent relationships.

Qualifications

• College degree (or equivalent experience) and seven to ten years of progressively challenging experience as an Ag Lines Underwriter.
• Minimum two to three years in a leadership or supervisory role directing the efforts of a professional team to manage agency relationships and business production.
• Completion of technical insurance coursework preferred, such as CPCU, AU, ARM, CRM or CIC.

• Correlate risk factors to underwriting standards to determine acceptance of risk.

This is a hybrid-eligible position, where Monday through Wednesday would be working in one of our offices, with Thursday and Friday eligible for work-from-home days. Office locations include: Monterey (CA), Roseville (CA), Bakersfield (CA), Phoenix (AZ), and Spokane (WA).

Job Overview

The purpose of this position is to lead the underwriting and production efforts of a team of Ag Underwriters. The Underwriting Team Leader is responsible for day-to-day production, underwriting quality, account management, and referral authority. This position is responsible for the direction and management of up to eight direct reports, including small to middle market production underwriters working in an office and/or remote environment.

The Underwriting Team Leader provides technical direction to Ag Lines team in the interpretation of Ag Lines underwriting policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to, direct responsibility for new and existing business, acceptance, declination, workflow, department procedures, and proper application of corporate underwriting policies, procedures and compliance with Insurance regulations.

This position will also have individual production responsibilities involving large and more complex technical accounts as well as providing superior support to CIG top and or middle tier agents.

Education and Experience:

• College degree (or equivalent experience) and seven to ten years of progressively challenging experience as an Ag Lines Underwriter.
• This individual must have ability to apply sound underwriting principles and manage an underwriting workload.
• The position also requires a minimum of two to three years in a leadership or supervisory role directing the efforts of a professional team to manage agency relationships and business production.
• Completion of technical insurance coursework preferred, such as CPCU, AU, ARM, CRM or CIC.

Knowledge of:

• Underwriting principles, procedures, rules and regulations
• Relevant knowledge of pertinent DOI Regulations and pending legislative issues
• Rating plans (ISO or similar) and commercial lines coverages
• Knowledge of social, economic and competitive aspects of territory assigned
• National and local business conditions and trends
• Underwriting and marketing philosophy and procedure
• Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary
• Basic mathematics and the application of formulas

Salary Range:

$100,593.00 - $167,655.00

The salary range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary range for this role. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range above or below, depending on experience and location. We look at compensation for each individual and base our offer on your unique qualifications, experience, and expected contributions. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation in addition to base salary, such as benefits and bonus programs.
