Job summary

Irby Construction Company, a Quanta Services subsidiary, seeks a Regional Safety Manager (Transmission) to lead safety across transmission projects in Georgia. You will partner with regional operations and safety teams to implement safety practices, drive field accountability, and ensure OSHA compliance.

You will guide hazard analyses, training, and incident investigations, while coordinating with clients and subcontractors to sustain a proactive safety culture across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on transmission power line construction experience.
• Leadership in utility construction safety or transmission projects.
• Professional safety certification such as COSS, COSM, OSHA 510, OSHA 500, or BCSP credential.
• High school diploma or equivalent; advanced degree preferred in Safety/Construction/Engineering.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and utility-safety requirements for transmission construction.

Responsibilities

• Provide regional safety leadership and oversight for transmission construction projects and field operations.
• Collaborate with Operations Managers, Project Managers, and field crews to reinforce a proactive safety culture.
• Conduct jobsite visits, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance with safety requirements.

• Review safety plans and pre-task analyses for completeness and effectiveness.

• Monitor safety trends and communicate findings to leadership.
• Coach and mentor safety professionals and field leaders in hazard recognition and safe practices.

About this Role

The Regional Safety Manager (Transmission) provides leadership and oversight for safety performance across assigned transmission construction operations. This position partners closely with regional operations leadership, project management, field supervision, and safety personnel to implement consistent safety practices, strengthen field accountability, and support the safe execution of high-voltage transmission work. The Regional Safety Manager serves as a technical safety resource, coach, and leader for multiple projects and work locations while helping ensure compliance with company standards, client requirements, OSHA regulations, and applicable industry practices.

What You'll Do

• Provide regional safety leadership and oversight for transmission construction projects, field operations, and assigned safety personnel.
• Partner with Operations Managers, Project Managers, Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, and field crews to reinforce a proactive safety culture and consistent execution of safety expectations.
• Conduct routine jobsite visits, field observations, audits, and inspections to evaluate compliance with company, client, OSHA, and project-specific safety requirements.
• Provide technical guidance related to transmission construction hazards, including energized work, grounding, line clearances, rigging, lifting, equipment operations, fall protection, excavation, traffic control, and other high-risk activities.
• Review project safety plans, job hazard analyses, pre-task planning, and other field safety documentation for completeness and effectiveness.
• Support project mobilization and pre-construction activities by identifying safety risks, training needs, site-specific requirements, and corrective actions before work begins.
• Lead and support incident reporting, investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective‑action development, and follow‑up to prevent recurrence.
• Monitor regional safety trends, leading indicators, observations, near misses, incidents, and corrective actions; communicate findings and recommendations to leadership.
• Coach and mentor safety professionals and field leaders to strengthen hazard recognition, accountability, communication, and safe work practices.
• Coordinate and support safety training, orientations, toolbox topics, and refresher training based on project needs, regulatory requirements, and field observations.
• Serve as a regional resource for interpretation and application of OSHA requirements, company safety policies, client expectations, and transmission construction best practices.
• Participate in project and regional safety meetings, operational reviews, planning meetings, and leadership discussions as required.
• Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal support functions regarding safety expectations, observations, corrective actions, and compliance matters.
• Support storm restoration and emergency response activities as required, including mobilization, field safety oversight, and extended‑hours support.
• Maintain accurate and timely safety records, reports, inspection documentation, training records, and other required compliance documentation.
• Promote continuous improvement by identifying recurring risks, recommending practical field solutions, and sharing lessons learned across the region.
• Adhere to company standards, policies, and procedures and perform other duties assigned by leadership.

What You'll Bring

• Extensive hands‑on experience in transmission power line construction is required, with a strong working knowledge of high‑voltage transmission operations, field practices, equipment, hazards, and construction methods.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in utility construction safety, field operations, or transmission construction with the ability to influence and support employees at all levels.
• Relevant professional safety certification or training is required, such as COSS, COSM, OSHA 510, OSHA 500, or a credential issued by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and utility‑industry safety requirements applicable to transmission construction.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across regional operations and support functions.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and familiarity with safety reporting, documentation, and record‑keeping systems.
• Ability to build effective working relationships with employees, clients, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.

Preferred

• Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) credential such as CSP, CHST, OHST, or other relevant professional safety certification.
• OSHA 500 and/or OSHA 510 certification, COSS, COSM, or comparable utility‑construction safety credential.
• Experience providing regional or multi‑project safety leadership within transmission construction, utility infrastructure, or a comparable high‑voltage environment.

Travel Requirements

• Approximately 80% travel throughout Georgia to transmission project sites, regional offices, and client locations required.
• Must maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Physical Qualifications

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and field conditions around active transmission construction operations.
• Capable of walking, standing, and climbing for extended periods while conducting field observations and jobsite visits.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Visual and auditory ability to safely navigate active transmission construction sites; reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
